Well the last week has been the classic cliche of hurry up and wait. Maddy is really enjoying her Sunday school. Above is her worksheet from last week. I love the circled 10 with the arrow pointing up the scale.
After church we went out to the fossil beds. Maddy had been asking to eat at McD's for quite a while. She saw the commercials when we watched the olympics that the chicken nuggets are now free of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives and are made with "real" chicken. I still have my doubts about some of these claims but we did let her try them. No ill effects after, so guess they were ok. They used to make her sick as a dog.
While we were eating, this Stellar Jay came to visit. I could only get pics of his silhouette. The lighting was just not right where we were sitting. He was a very pretty bird and pretty friendly. The girls also loved a chipmunk that came to check out the scraps they were dropping.
We hiked down one of the trails for about half a mile. My kids need to toughen up on the hiking. Actually they did pretty good. It was a mile total so not bad for them.
We also checked out the Hornbek homestead. It was homesteaded by a widowed woman with I think 9 or 12 kids (can't remember but it was a ton of kids!). She was one of the people who first discovered the fossil beds and promoted how important they were.
We've also been working on house stuff. Lots of choices about everything. It is kind of overwhelming at times. The stone we like but we are chucking the stucco colors and getting different samples.
Aaron found a place in Woodland Park to lease and office. It is an incredible price. He locked in a two year lease. It's a co-office space but they also had a few private offices to rent. We have been setting that up. We got a desk and visitor chair. WE have an office chair in the POD so that will go in there when we get that delivered and unloaded which will hopefully be soon!
The girls love the office.
This is the lumber for the floor of the house. It sounds like they are out there starting on it as I type. They had to backfill all the dirt hills in around the foundation. I won't lie. I am not sad the dirt hills are gone but the kids miss them.
The pic above and two below are from the Sir Richard aka cat pee house. We did the inspection on Thursday and everything went great! So we are set to close on Friday. We will rip out flooring. Kilz floor, prime walls with odor blocking primer, paint and have the new flooring installed on Wed. At least that is the plan. We picked out pretty bottom of the line flooring because we plan to rent the house later but it will look pretty good and be very livable.
We will have to do some repairs to the deck, paint the exterior at some point and hope to put in a shed and carport to increase property value. There are a few other very minor things that need to be done, all of which we can do with my Dad's help. No three day weekend for us this year.
The inspection went from 9-noon because we had a general inspector, septic inspect, and well inspect. We were all more than hungry by the time that got done. Dad came out to the inspection. We asked him to come in case there was any major thing that came up as he'd know better than us if it would be worth repairing. We went to Mike's BBQ in Divide. It is a little shack on the side of Hwy 24 and super delicious. THey had bubble and sidewalk chalk for Kelsay to play with while we waited. We got chopped brisket and shredded pork. Coleslaw and potato salad for the sides. The BBQ came with 4 different sauces. We'll definitely be going back.
Storm coming in from view in Aaron's office. We've been having rain almost every afternoon. THat has made being at the camper mind numbing. We go up to Aaron's office for a break sometimes.
Kelsay is watching the rain come in. THis was the afternoon after we finished the inspection. It is clouding up again here. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a shower soon. Hopefully the framing guys get something done before the rain sets in.

After lunch, we went and got Maddy a Jr. Ranger booklet so she could earn a badge. She was supposed to do three pages in the book, but being the classic overachiever she did 5 or 6. We had a lot of fun doing the book. Learned a lot about the park and she got a badge and a patch at the end of the activities.
