Grad School

I am sitting in a pavillion on the DBU campus right now. I did not realize this campus was so pretty. It is very green with lots of ponds and fountains and most of the buildings are pretty attractive. I met with the guy who is in charge of the MLA programs today. I cannot believe how simple the application process is. You just fill out an application online and send in your transcripts. Then he evaluates those two things along with a written statement of why you want to be in the Master's program. Then he makes a recommendation and sends it to a committee who then approves or rejects the application and that's it. No application deadline. The program itsself is great. I can take 18 hours of English as my specialization which will allow me to teach at a community college. I will have to take the 9 core classes required for the MLA degree. Then I can take the rest of my hours in fine arts, political science, history, religion, missions, or a couple of other things I don't remember. There is no thesis option here so I'll have to take 36 hours of course work which is fine by me. A thesis scares the hebee jebees out of me anyway. I am so excited about this program!
Aaron is signing his contract right now and getting his books and getting all of our health insurance papers signed. Fun fun.
This week is going to be hectic because I am going to really try to get a lot done on my classes and also be packing to be gone a whole month. I don't know how to pack for that long so it will be interesting. Thankfully most people we'll be staying with have washers and dryers so we'll be able to do laundry and stuff. I am really excited about getting into the dry air.
Six Flags was fun this weekend. Tricia, Holly G, her brother Daniel, me, Aaron, Tricia's cousin Alex, and Alex's friend Brittany all went. The only downside was that the lines were so long. We waited an hour to ride the batman roller coaster. I rode Batman, Runaway Mountain which is a rollercoaster that is in the dark, the Titan which is a huge roller coaster, the log ride, Aquaman which was awesome cause it got us soaked and felt really good, and one of those swing rides which I hate but everyone wanted to start on. I hate the tingly feeling the swing gives you on the way down. It was fun but I didn't feel like I got quite enough rides for my money. We grilled hamburgers when we got back home and played Apples to Apples, a really fun game that I recommend if you like funny games that don't require a lot of brain power. Holly, Daniel, and Tricia went to church with us the next morning and then the Gaskins headed back to Lubbock. It was a short and fast trip for them but I'm so glad they came. I always really enjoy getting to hang out with Holly and her brother was fun too.

Yeah, the lines at Six Flags can really ruin the fun. I really liked the Batman ride when we went. Not to get you all paranoid and stuff but it is a good idea to turn off the water to your house when you leave for a long time.......you never know.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
