Heartbeat! 2 weeks for puppies, insurance woes

Scroll to the bottom for the new update if you've already read what I wrote yesterday!

Sorry if you're tired of looking at puppies! I think blogs without pictures are boring so I always try to put pictures, and honestly, this is the only interesting thing I have to take pictures of right now.
The puppies are two weeks old. They don't have their eyes open still but they are working really hard to get up on their little legs and walk instead of just crawling to mom on their bellies. I think their eyes should be opening up at the end of this week.
So, on Saturday we got our mail around 5 o'clock. In the mail was a horrid note from our dr.'s office saying that our insurance had denied our claim because we failed to meet the pre-existing condition clause. So of course I started freaking out. How are we going to pay for this kid? All I could imagine in my anger and distress at the insurance company was that I was going to have 0 pre-natal care and then have the baby at home with Aaron, who has no idea what to do, as my only attendant. Over-reaction yes, but I'm sure that those of you who have been pregnant and know how much it costs to have a kid without insurance will understand my distress. Anyway, I was so upset about it all night. We went to bed and I couldn't even fall asleep, which is unusual for me. Anyway, as I lay there worrying about what was going to happen (there was no on we could call until Monday) I remembered that I'd said that I was going to read my Bible that day even if I had to do it really late. Last week at church our preacher had talked about how God speaks to us through his word and if we want to hear from God on a consistent basis then we need to read the Bible regularly. He challenged us to read a passage each day and write down, what does it say and what does it say to me. Well, I am really bad at reading my Bible everyday but had decided to try to do it. Well I ended up only reading once before Saturday came. Anyway, I remembered that I was supposed to read that day so I turned on my light and just opened the Bible up to a random place thinking, "I really don't want to do this right now, let's just get it over with." Well the passage I opened to was Psalm 34. It starts out talking about praising the Lord at all times and then talks about how God will always take care of the righteous and how the wicked will be forgot. Well! I felt like God was speaking right to me through what I read. Immediately I felt better and I was able to go to sleep. Still mad at the stupid insurance people but reassured that God was going to take care of us. So the next day I did a little research and found some cheaper options in case our insurance company wasn't going to come thru that I was comfortable with. Today Aaron went and talked to the HR person here at DBU and she told him that the claim should not have been denied and pregnancy should not fall under the pre-existing condition clause. She was going to call the insurance and the dr. and try to get everything worked out for us so that is a blessing that we have her because we don't really know what to do about it ourselves. We should be hearing from her soon to find out what she worked out or is working out. Anyway, a big stressful mess, but hopefully it will all be resolved. you might say a little prayer about it for us though. So I was supposed to have a dr.'s appt. tomorrow but I may be canceling it until we get the insurance fiasco cleared up. I'll keep you updated.
Other than all that going on I basically spend all my spare time reading. I have so much reading to do right now because I have a paper in my English class that's due in a couple of weeks and have to read and extra novel for the paper on top of all my normal reading. Hopefully after this week though that will ease up a little bit. Aaron is doing good and working hard. He is giving another test on Monday so we'll see if his student's study skills improved any.
I put up fall decorations last week. Aaron's mom gave me a gift card to Michael's for my b-day so I used some of that to get us a few more fall decorations and a candle that Aaron really liked. I love fall! I may try to talk Aaron into stopping at Wal-Mart and seeing if we can get some cider tonight before we go home. It is not cold here by any means but I love apple cider.

So we did end up going to the dr. today after all. I had canceled the appointment but then apparently our HR person got things worked out to where they were willing to have us come in anyway. So...I woke up at 8:30, the appointment was at 9 so it was kind of a rush to make it, but we did. We got to hear the baby's heart beat and that was really cool. Both Aaron and I had the feeling of "It's alive!" The dr. sent a message to my cell phone with the heartbeat on it, so I'm hoping I can figure out how to get that off my phone and onto my computer. That was the cool part of the visit. The other part was getting blood drawn for different tests. They are going to type my blood and look at some other things I think. I hate needles so the blood work is never pleasant. That's all there was to the dr.'s appt. Oh! And I had gained a pound, which he was pleased with. So probably at the end of next month I will be keeping an eye out for some good deals on maternity clothes. Does anyone have any recommendation on the most important things to get? I have some shirts with the empire waist style that I think I can wear for several months, but I'll probably have to get a pair of pants and a pair of shorts. Any other essential items I need to think about?

ah! i'll keep praying about the insurance mess...but i KNOW God is going to take care of it one way or another! hopefully you'll hear from DBU soon...i don't think it'd be very fun having the baby at home with no meds! :)

I think it is somewhat common for insurance companies to not pay for a lot of maternal care for some reason. Not considered a "sickness" or "emergency". I am not really up on it. I know our insurance specifically does not pay for maternal care, except in the case of pregnancy complications. Come out to Clovis to have your baby! I heard somebody say it was cheap out here. Maybe the Dr. is a vet on the side or something.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
