Colorado Vacay Part I

I can't believe half of our vacation is gone already! We have been busy busy the past week and a half.
We drove to Colorado Springs, spent the night with my parents, and then came the rest of the way to Montrose. On Sunday we went to church and had lunch with some friends and then saw Aaron's aunt, uncle, and cousin who live in Grand Junction. The next part of the week we spent in Montrose with Aaron's grandma, mom, and uncle. We went on a picnic in Cedaredge and saw Aaron's sister's new place they are renting. This little park in Cedaredge was so pretty.
Maddy loved playing in the creek and looking at all the trees. She also had a good time hanging out with everyone.

The cold water didn't seem to phase her.
Grams had a supply of ice cream bars in her freezer. Maddy enjoyed chowing down on one of those.
We got lots of practice in her stander and she is doing really awesome in it now.
It was really hot the first few days we were here so we got out the pool for the afternoons so Maddy could cool off. Grams does not have a/c. She was mad the first day in the pool because it was too bright and I made her wear a hat. The second day we got in we had more shade and some cloud cover and she loved it. That day is finally started raining and cooled the days off into the 80's. No more pool time but hello beautiful Colorado summer days!
Grams has a lot of xeroscaping in her yard and one of Maddy's favorite activities was to play in the rocks.
Toward the end of the week we went up to spend the night in the rustic cabin at Taylor reservoir. Since Aaron's dad works for the irrigation board he gets to go up and stay in the cabin and take people with him. This cabin is right by the dam and there is a cabin next to it where the guy who watches the dam lives. When I say rustic I mean rustic. The shower water is heated by a wood stove. It is pretty cool. All the heating is by wood stove and the cookstove is one of those old fashioned ones you build a fire in. We did most cooking outside on grills, etc.
While at Taylor we drove up to Cottonwood pass and did some hiking on the Continental Divide. More about that in a sec.
This is on top of Taylor dam. People aren't supposed to go on top of it, but since Aaron's dad works for them he has a key so we all got to go up and check it out. Really cool views from off the dam.

This is us at the top of our hike on the divide. So gorgeous to look around and see mountains and mountain meadows in all directions. Maddy was a great hiker. We had to carry her all the way. She got really tired but she did great and didn't fuss once.
Maddy playing in a little Meadow area at Cottonwood. Notice the mountains behind her.
There was a snowbank on the pass so Aaron took Maddy sledding. (His butt was the sled.) She loved it. They went down several times.
Snow in July!
Maddy looking cute playing around the cabin.
These daisies grow along the river coming out from the dam. So beautiful! Daisies are one of my favorite flowers. The river here is so cool too because the water looks black. Really really beautiful.

This cat is named Sebastian. he is the neighbors cat and he and Maddy were good buds. He was much better than our cat about letting her pet him.
There were some ducks in a park a couple of blocks down the road from Grams house. We fed them a couple of times. The first time it was just a mama and some baby ducks. The second time all the ducks in Montrose showed up. It was hilarious. They just kept coming out of the wood work. Some arrived too late for bread. Maddy got a big kick out of watching the ducks.
Maddy and her cousins.
Taking a cat nap with her cat picture while we moved Grandma Kim into her new place in Cedaredge. Speaking of cats...we were headed out of Montrose last night back over to the Springs when a bobcat ran right into our car. He took out the radiator, a/c, and bent the frame in the front. We felt terrible about running over him but he did a number on us too. Aaron is working on figuring out how to get everything fixed right now. It's a lot of damage so I don't know that it will get fixed in a day and we need to leave tomorrow at the latest to make it to my family reunion so we may end up renting a car. Will we, like the bear, make it to the other side of the mountain? Check in next time to find out!

wow! glad to hear no one was hurt in that little accident. I had a pronghorn run across the road in front of me when I was in highschool and almost totaled my car. Sounds like an awesome trip!

Thanks for all the effort posting pictures. Really like seeing all of them. Really jealous hearing about the stuff your getting to do. Except for wrecking the car.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
