Wait...did I wake up in Dallas?

 So our winter weather continues....only this time we have snow instead of ice. DBU's campus has been closed since Tuesday so we have had four days off to just hang out at the house staying warm and spending time together. It has been great! DBU was planning to open campus at 10 this morning but since we got 5 INCHES OF SNOW instead of the 1 inch of snow they were predicting, campus is closed again today. Good thing because the snow on top of the ice is making things extra slick. Sad thing is we still have to go pick up Maddy's KAFOs from Scotttish Rite this afternoon or wait another two weeks to get them. Fortunately we have a Colorado native in the family who has lots of experience driving on nasty, icy, snowy roads. We started out the morning by building a fire. This has become the normal morning activity for the week.
 Then we decided to take Maddy out to play in the snow, something she's never really done before.
 Here she is getting warm clothes on to go outside.
 So.....as you can see we are not really prepared for playing in the snow type weather. After looking though everything she owned, this was the warmest outfit I could come up with. Sad. Oh and the shoes? Well I tried to convince her to wear tennis shoes and she absolutely refused. I guess she thought that her pink crocks matched this outfit the best. Beauty before comfort, right?

 Finally we all manage one picture of all of us looking happy about being out in the cold and snow. After our 5 minute snow adventure we headed back inside. Maddy was not too impressed with her first experience in snow. Below is a view of the backyard. The snow piled on top of the grill gives a good picture of how much snow we got.

We are going to maybe let the kids go out today and play in the snow. (mud) There are some big drifts in places, bare dry ground in others.

We thought it would be nice enough yesterday for a little walk. About 30 minutes was all we could stand. Sun was shining and light wind, but still cold.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

 Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. Geneticist

We went to see the genetic counselor this morning at 10. What we found out was hopeful for now, although we'll have to continue watching to see how thing develop. She said from what the doctors had communicated to her and from the initial results of the fish test (test for the chromosomal defects) and because I have been feeling the baby move every day, right now she thinks the baby may have a condition called Amyoplasia Congenita. This is a condition where the baby develops normally except for the hands and feet which can be corrected through orthopedic treatment, at least to some extent. People with this condition can live normal lives. This is obviously the best news we've had all week and much better than where we were a week ago. However, this isn't a diagnosis. We still need to watch the baby's development and also get the complete results from the chromosomal testing. BUT we are so thankful that today we have good news and something to hope for. Animal Happenings

 It looks like the last update I posted on animals was about going to the sale barn and getting cows. As a reminder we got a calf/cow pair and a "weaned" calf: Chloe, Midnight, and Mooey. Chloe and midnight are some kind of black angus mix and midnight is part Holstein. Midnight and Mooey will eventually be our meat cows. We hope to AI Chloe sometime in the near future for another calf. Midnight, her calf pictured below (much littler in the pic than he is now) is a very good looking steer. He could go to the fair if he wanted. This is a picture of him getting out of his fence and coming in the yard. He still gets out from time to time. Having a mama calf keeps both the steers in line though. They are much better about not getting crazy, unlike some other steers we could name from the past, but won't. We ended up having to feed quite a bit of hay this winter as we had snow cover from November to end of March. We got our barn built about January and began collecting more ...
