Turkey...turkey, turkey, turkey TURKEEEYYYY!

Showing off her craft night art work

Huge pot of white chili I made for the homecoming chili cook off at DBU.

It was the month of turkeys.....turkey cards, turkey trots, turkey eating. We had turkey twice because Aaron wanted me to cook one that was in our freezer and then we had turkey at Mema's house. I used to get tired of turkey but I actually really like it now. I made all kinds of turkey soups and casseroles out of the leftover turkey we had here at home. Maddy loved making hand turkeys...you know the ones where you trace your hand and then color it like a turkey. Maddy also discovered that she is a fan of pumpkin pie. Oh! We also had turkey for our church's thanksgiving meal the Sunday before Thanksgiving so make that triple turkey dinners for us this month. I thought of that because I was telling Maddy what we were going to have for lunch: "turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and stuffing..." and Maddy piped up at the end and said "And pumpkin pie!" I didn't even know she really knew what pumpkin pie was until she was excited about eating it.
Abstract turkey. We had to find the turkeys in Maddy's finger paint creations.
We spent Thanksgiving in Farwell and Lubbock and had a great time eating, relaxing, napping, watching football, playing scrabble, and talking. Maddy kept us entertained. She knows all the great grandparents now and gets excited to see them. We left really late on Wednesday evening to go to Farwell so we didn't get in until 1 a.m. and of course everyone was in bed. We went in quietly as we could (kinda hard to go in very quietly because Tuffy the dog always howls and yowls when anyone shows up at the house) and I put Maddy in her pj's and started to lay her down in bed. Maddy started sobbing so I asked her why she was crying and she said, "Wanna see Mema!" She was crying so hard because she didn't get to see Mema when we got in that she could barely talk. I had to laugh pretty hard about that. When I told her Mema was sleeping and we'd see her first thing in the morning, she settled down and went to bed just fine.
A couple of Maddy funnies from the holidays I want to remember:

At lunch on Saturday Maddy informed Granna that she was a "granna granna" and grandad that he was a "grandad grandad" and etc. for everyone at the table. Then she got to me and said, "And mamma is a llama llama."

Maddy got into my shower stuff and brought a razor and a bottle of toner out into the living room. She held up the razor and said, "I'm going to scrub Mommy's legs."

Dolled up for the Russell Perry dinner.
I ate way too much this trip and sat around way too much, but I will pay for my sins on Sunday. The White Rock is on Sunday and I will be doing the half marathon for the third year in a row. Dreading the race but so excited about all the family coming in to do the relay and half marathon this weekend! Aaron is a crazy person as usual and running the full marathon.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
