After having Christmas in 7 different places I think Maddy is expecting a present opening session about every two or so days.
Our first Christmas as at our house in Dallas. See previous post for how that went...an ER visit was in the mix. Next we went to my Mema's house in Farwell. We ended up having a White Christmas in West Texas. The tradition is to do gifts and Christmas dinner on Christmas eve. Aaron had never been to Christmas eve in Farwell so it was fun for him to experience how I did Christmas growing up.
We saved one gift for Maddy to open Christmas morning. It was a lot of fun to see her find her gift under the tree and unwrap it.
On Christmas morning we went to Lubbock to my other grandparents. We got together with everyone for Christmas dinner in the evening and then my immediate family did our gift exchange. The only downer was that Cindy and Brad and Bethany couldn't make it down to Texas.
We drove to Colorado the next day and stopped at Aaron's Fletcher grandparent's ranch for a day and did Christmas with them. They had a good amount of snow on the ground and we actually had to use 4WD on our Isuzu to get up their driveway. When we left we didn't need 4WD anymore but we noticed our car was pulling to the right really bad. We thought a hub didn't come out so put it in and out of 4WD again. After that we heard a ominous clinking and rattling. We pulled of as soon as we could, and sure enough....car trouble. We called a tow into Woodland Park and our CV axle was sheered on the right wheel. They said they could have it repaired by 8:30 the next morning. My Dad came and picked us up and we stayed the night in Colorado Springs. Long story...but to make it short, the car was not ready until 1:30 that afternoon. Really frustrating because we lost a lot of time with Aaron's family.
We drove to Montrose on Thursday afternoon and got to Aaron's brother's house in time for dinner. We did Christmas gifts with them and Aaron's mom made cupcakes for the kids to decorate. Maddy spent most of her time eating her icing off her butter knife. She had a great time with her cousins. She loved playing dart guns with her cousins and dad.
On Friday we went to feed cows with Aaron's dad. They had a blow up sled and the kids had a great time pulling each other up and down the road on it and getting rides from Uncle Aaron.
On Saturday, we went to Aaron's aunt's house in Grand Junction for new year's eve. Aaron's sister brought stuff for the girls to do pedicures and facials. We had tons of yummy snacks and played cards until the clock struck midnight. We also did presents with them.
On New Year's Day we went back across the mountains to Brad and Cindy's house in Denver. We had our traditional New Year's scrabble tournament, but ended up in a three way tie without having time to play a game to break it. Still super fun. We did presents with the Halls and Brad and Cindy fed us like royalty. They had gotten a Keirug (sp?) for Christmas and it was fun to use that and try out all the different coffees.
We took the kids on a walk and to play in the park. They had a great time. Bethany loves to walk around and stomp on snow.
The cousins in their matching princess jammies. Maddy got it in her head that she wanted to get Bethany a "princess present" for Christmas. Maddy already had princess pjs so she picked out some for Bethany's christmas gift.
On Tuesday we took Aaron to the airport to fly back to Dallas. He is leaving for Kenya for 10 days on Thursday. Tam and I will drive back to Dallas next Monday. Aaron took the camera for the Kenya trip so hopefully he will have some great pictures this time. Please keep him in your prayers for the next week and a half. Also, Maddy will have surgery on her ankle on January 19th so we are asking for prayers for that coming up as well. It will be at Scottish Rite and she will have a cast on her foot for 6 weeks. We are excited to see what the New Year will bring for our family. It is definitely starting out pretty crazy for now.
