Well this post is a little late. We just finished week two of Maddy's Tues./Thurs. school program. She started a Mother's Day Out at a large church close to our house and she is loving it! I love it too. It is really nice to have a couple of mornings where I have time to run, get things done around the house uninterrupted, shop, get work done for teaching, etc. Maddy is always ready to go to class when it is a school day. She loves playing on the playground, painting, and playing dress up. She has only had one potty accident at school which is pretty good for her. The dress she is wearing in the pic is the dress we bought for her first day of school outfit. She calls it her "school dress" and she wears it to school every time it is clean. She always wears a dress to school. The thing I love most about her school is that she comes home talking about God. On Tuesday she was talking about God's Word. Today she kept talking about making God happy. They have a Bible story time every day and whatever they are doing is working to help her think about God.
In other news, we have completed our home study (minus medical forms signed by a doctor which we'll get taken care of in the next couple of weeks). Our social work will write up the report and submit it in the next couple of weeks. Then we can move on to getting our government documents submitted and our documents to submit to Ghana. So lots more paper work but at least we are through Step 1!
I'll leave you with a few Maddy funnies:
Maddy is at the age where she takes everything literally. A while back she got really upset when Tammy went to dinner with friends and Maddy found out that she wasn't invited to go a long. She was already upset anyway and when she found out she couldn't go with Tammy she just started sobbing hysterically. I finally got her calmed down. Then I said, "Were you hysterical?" Maddy looked at me like I had lost my mind and said. slowly and clearly, as if talking to a mentally deficient person, "I'm Maddy. Just Maddy."
Maddy got interested in Transformers at the family reunion. (Thanks Cooper!) We checked out a Transformers book from the library. I read, "With one punch, Optimus Prime knocked Starscream out cold." Maddy pointed to the picture of Starscream and exclaimed, "Brrrrrrrr!"
Every kid needs someone to boss. Seal was trying to jump on the fridge to get his food. Maddy firmly but gently grabbed him and then patted his back and said, in a very sweet and soothing voice, "No, don't get on the refrigerator, Seal. I'm sorry but that's just not a good idea." A few minutes later, Seal escaped and got on the fridge. Maddy started yelling from the kitchen, "Mommy! Seal needs to go to time out! I told him not to touch the refrigerator and he got on the refrigerator!"
The social worker who did the home study suggested that we start talking to Maddy about adoption and try to help her understand what adoption is. So when we were getting some thing around the house ready for the safety inspection, Maddy asked what we were doing. So I explained that we were getting the house ready for an inspection because we were working on a adoption and that adoption means that we get to take care of a kid whose parents can't take care of kids. The next day, before the social work came to do the inspection, etc., Aaron asked Maddy if she knew what adoption was. Maddy thought about it for a little bit and then replied, "Strawberry applesauce." To adopt a line from "I Love Lucy": we got a lot of 'splainin' to do!"
