Spa Day

So I never thought I'd go to the giant Spa Castle just down the road from our house. Apparently this is the largest Asian spa outside of New York. However, my bro-in-law, Brad, decided that Cindy and I needed some relaxation and a break from scrapping children so he set up a spa day for us and sent us off yesterday morning to enjoy ourselves. Going to the spa isn't an activity I'd ever choose for myself and probably would not have enjoyed if I'd gone alone. But it was interesting to see inside this monstrosity and we did enjoy ourselves.

The behemoth

We got there about an hour before our massage appointments so we could hang out in the pool and look around. We had to leave our shoes in a locker and then go pick up a "uniform" that we were supposed to wear everywhere except the pool The pools were all very nice and it was fairly deserted on a Tuesday morning so we didn't have to worry too much about looking like the awkward people who had no idea what they were doing. They had some hot tubs but we didn't do those since I'm pregnant. They also had an area that was like hot tubs that was no clothing allowed (women only area). Definitely not comfortable with that. In fact, I didn't see anyone who wasn't Asian in that area.

Where we swam

After relaxing in the pool we went to the second floor to get our massages. Cindy got a Swedish massage but, again, since I'm pregnant I just got a hand and foot massage, which also included a face, neck, head and shoulder massage. It was kind of like a reflexology thing more than a massage, but was still relaxing. Cindy said that her massage guy was appalled at how tight her shoulders were. The quote from him that we laughed and laughed about was "Oh my! Oh my! Your shoulders are like a concrete!" After our massages we got a fruit smoothie and sat out on their deck. After that, we decided it was time to go home.
We checked out at the desk. We had to have exit cards. Basically, you are not sneaking out without paying. I think we both did feel a lot more relaxed after our few hours away and it was a fun adventure. Thanks to Brad for being so thoughtful and watching the kids while we pampered ourselves.

What a fun adventure. I think I would have the same problem as Cindy. Tight "concrete" shoulders. I would love the hand and foot massage though.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
