Kelsay #2

We had Kelsay's second birthday a couple of weeks ago. Wanna know the sad truth? These are the only pictures I go the entire weekend. BAD MOM. The sunglasses pic is actually from the day before her birthday but it expresses her current personality so well.
Her birthday was on Friday. That day was pretty low key. We gave her her big wheel when she got up. She wouldn't ride it at first but got warmed up after a couple hours. She needs to grow into it a bit. The age said 24 months up but she can't quite reach the pedal so it will be a bit before she can actually ride. I made her spaghetti for dinner and Maddy and Kelsay go to have a scoop of ice cream.

She also got this awesome magnet board from Granna. Great entertainment and now I don't have to trip over her when I'm cooking and she is playing in front of the fridge.

I was going to do a frozen cake for her but she's obsessed with owls right now so I decided owls instead. It turned out okay in looks and AMAZING in texture and taste. I highly recommend Swan's Down Cake Flour if you plan to make a cake from scratch.
And, yeah, that's it for pictures. We had a fun party in which we combined the super bowl and birthday. The Broncos won! A good omen for Kelsay's second year? We had a brisket one of Aaron's companies gave us for Christmas so we served that with fixings. Best brisket I've ever had. It came from Franklin's BBQ in Austin. They had this amazing espresso bbq sauce to put on it. Kelsay got some nice gifts from her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She had a great day. She is a big fan of birthdays now.
She also thinks she's three. Or she did. She insisted for several days that she was three but I've heard her since then admit to being two. She is a classic two year old and smart as a whip. She copies everything everyone says. She also had ideas of her own. Yesterday we saw some bees in the yard. She was scared of them because she's seen Maddy mindlessly running from a harmless bee, so we had to go inside. Then she told me that bees make honey and pizza. Good stuff. She drives me crazy all day long everyday, but she is so cute and fun. Potty training is the next big milestone and I'm dreading it. Maybe she will potty train herself. Here's hoping.

I'm behind on reading blogs. I love to read and relive some of your experiences and adventures. I almost feel I am right there with you... just wish I could be. This girl is just as amazing as her big sister. She's definitely a "typical" two. Love this sweet girl.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
