Moving on into August. I went on a very pretty hike by this stream while the girls were in day camp one day.
Threw this pic in for laughs. We call this the poop pose. It pops up once in a while, but not as often as stretchy face. If you've been looking at all the pics, you're well acquainted with stretchy face by now.
Girls had fun with hair mascara.
One of the highlights of August is that Dr. Rachel, another friend from Dallas came to visit. Sadly, I failed to get pictures while she was with us. She too, succumbed to altitude sickness for a day or two. She stayed with us about a day and then we all drove over to Montrose. We went to Snowmass to drop Dr. Rachel at a friends house. We drove through Pitkin county over Independence Pass. That was a drive that I'd never done before and it was absolutely beautiful. I can't remember the name of the triangular shaped 14'er that is really famous over there. Five people fell and died hiking it this summer. It was really pretty.
The girls got to ride Grandma Kim's horse, Topaz. This is a new horse as her previous horsed died last fall. They loved getting to do all the horse stuff.
It was very hot that day.
We also went to Black Canyon National Park. Highly recommend if you are out that way. It is very awe inspiring. In a different way from the Grand Canyon for sure. The Grand Canyon is so wide and vast. The Black Canyon is amazingly narrow and deep. Painted Wall, which is a few pics down was the highlight for me.
They have an amazing visitor center. We could have spent a lot more time there if we'd had it.

We hit the Delta County Fair on the way home. That was a trip through nostalgia for Aaron as he used to show steers and pigs here. The girls got these amazing face paintings. I had a Navajo taco. That was a trip to nostalgia for me! I hadn't had one in years.
August also brought the first day of school for Maddy. Kelsay did not start until after Labor Day.
Third grade! So unbelievable that we are in 3rd grade. Maddy's teacher, Mrs. Swanson seems really great so far. Maddy likes her and has done well in her class.
We grew massive and endless zucchini.
We bought a 4 wheeler. It has a snow plow that attaches so hopefully we can keep our driveway plowed when winter hits. We need to get a cart for hauling wood we chop up around the place.
Being silly.
We also got to go to school and watch the eclipse with Maddy. Her school had extra, free eclipse glasses. Score! We saw 90% of totality which was pretty cool.
