It's A ....

Girl/boy test.

Last day inside.

The puppies new home.

Look at the sweet bed I found! Oh wait, this is my sister.

...girl? As you can see there is a picture of a beaker full of orange/yellow liquid. Well that's my pee combined with sodium hydroxide. Aaron's professor from York, Dr. Ray, had been doing this test to determine the sex of a baby at 12-13 weeks fetal age for 30 years and he has never been wrong. You combine about a tablespoon of sodium hydroxide with a urine sample and let it sit for 30 minutes. If it turns red, orange, pink, or red it's a girl. If it turns blue or green, it's a boy. Aaron did the test Monday morning but he didn't get a good picture of it because he stirred it up for some reason and it made the pee turn yellow again. So we did again this morning. So if Dr. Ray's fool proof test works, we're having a girl. We're saying we're about 95% sure right now since we've never personally conducted this test before. I'm excited to know. I know some people will think we are smoking crack until the dr. confirms that it's a girl with the ultrasound in November, but as far as I'm concerned, the test is good enough for me. I'm pretty sure that Aaron's family is going to disbelieve us and try to pray the baby into being a boy until we get the ultrasound (or sonogram or whatever it is you get). That is what Aaron's mom did with Kodi because they thought he was a girl for awhile. I say they can get over it and be glad to have a sweet little girl as an addition to the family.
Other news..we bought a new mattress on Sunday. We needed a mattress for the guest room. We'll put the new mattress on our bed and put our mattress on the guest bed. So now you can come visit us and sleep on an actual bed instead of a pullout bed! I'm so excited about actually having a guest room. Now I need to find a cheap bed in a bag thing so I can have sheets and a comforter for it. Aaron suggested looking at Ross and that is a great idea. It will probably take a little bit to find something I like for the price I want.
The puppies have moved to their pen in the garage. I am glad cause they were starting to stink. I started them on dog food yesterday so hopefully in a couple of weeks they will be totally on dog food so we can start getting rid of them. With the bad economy stuff going on we are so nervous that we aren't going to be able to sell them so please pray that some people will buy them. Anyway, after some finagling they have adjusted to the garage quite well.
This weekend is fair weekend! I'm so excited to see everyone whose coming! Holly G. is bringing her 6 wk old Schnauzer puppy that she got on Friday. He sounds adorable. There will be a lot of puppies running around this weekend. I love the fair and can't wait to try out some of the interesting fried concoctions they come up with and add some inches to my already expanding waist line.
I think I'm gaining weight at a healthy rate but I don't want to go to the dr. and have gained way more than I was supposed to this month. My pants are getting tight so I ordered this thing called a Bellaband from Target online. THey do not carry it in the stores for some reason. I wish I would have ordered it two weeks ago so I could have actually used it this week. My pants are getting a little snug. THey still button but not comfortably. I think I am going to be in sweatpants until it gets here.

Where can I get some NaOH and does it work when you are 36 weeks? I think it would be fun to test it out on me since I already know. I hope that you guys have a blast at the fair, stay away from the nasty smells. Also invest in some long, loose shirts to cover up the tops of those pants, I like getting shirts that aren't maternity, just some cheap babydoll T's from JCPenny, Ross, etc.

Animal Happenings

It looks like the last update I posted on animals was about going to the sale barn and getting cows. As a reminder we got a calf/cow pair and a "weaned" calf: Chloe, Midnight, and Mooey. Chloe and midnight are some kind of black angus mix and midnight is part Holstein. Midnight and Mooey will eventually be our meat cows. We hope to AI Chloe sometime in the near future for another calf. Midnight, her calf pictured below (much littler in the pic than he is now) is a very good looking steer. He could go to the fair if he wanted. This is a picture of him getting out of his fence and coming in the yard. He still gets out from time to time. Having a mama calf keeps both the steers in line though. They are much better about not getting crazy, unlike some other steers we could name from the past, but won't. We ended up having to feed quite a bit of hay this winter as we had snow cover from November to end of March. We got our barn built about January and began collecting more ...

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Raccoons

We've been plagued with the nasty devils this week. We accidentally left dog food on the porch one night. Fortunately, Aaron saw the raccoon sneaking a snack before he headed to bed. We chased it off but woke up to find one of our chickens had been it's victim. I have been super careful to make sure no food has been left out but the raccoon has been back. I heard a terrible confrontation in the woods on Tuesday night between a raccoon and SOMETHING in the woods. The SOMETHING whimpered as the raccoon hissed and spit. I hope that whatever the SOMETHING was it is ok. It sounded like a dog so I am wondering if it was a coyote vs. raccoon showdown. One of our cats stays out all the time and I thought at first it was her. I was out banging a bucket with a stick and yelling trying to get the raccoon to leave. Turns out the cat was on the deck cool as a cucumber. We had been letting Whiskers and kittens stay outside as well but now we go through the nightly routine of putting them in ...
