3 hour glucose test

So I did the 3 hour glucose test on Friday. Today the dr.'s office called and told me that that test came back normal--so no gestational diabetes! Yeah. I would have been shocked if I had it but you never know. I think the lady did not draw the blood at the right time on the first test. That lab is very shady. Some of you have already heard the crazy events of Friday so feel free to skip the next few paragraphs.
So as you may or may not recall, the doctor called last Thursday and told me that I had "failed" the glucose test and I was very upset. I had to find a 3 hour block where I could go in and do the 3 hour glucose test to test further whether I actually had gd or not. So I decided to schedule it for the next day because the only day I could work it out was Fridays and I did not want to have to worry about it for a whole week. So I asked the nurse that called me if I needed to call the lab to schedule the test. She said no, she would just fax the paper work over and I could go in first thing in the morning. Okay. Great. So I started fasting after my last meal at about 7 that night. I woke up the next morning hungry of course. Aaron had to teach class at 8 and the lab did not open until 8 so he had to drop me off infront of the lab to wait until it opened. I got there a little after 7. Fortunatley last Friday was a very warm day so I did not have to worry about it being too cold to wait outside. I brought lots of reading material for school with me. So I read and waited. At 8 o'clock others started showing up that needed to get lab work done as well. By 8:25, four of us were waiting outside the lab wondering what was going on. Finally the lady who runs the lab pulled into the parking lot and let us all in. Then I signed in. She asked me what I was ther for. I told her that I needed the 3 hour glucose test and my dr.'s office had faxed the paper work yesterday. No she said. I don't have any paper work for you and you didn't make an appointment. So I explained that I had been told I didn't need an appointment. So I called the dr.'s thinking that no one would answer because they don't open til 9. Fortunately someone did and I explained that there was some confusion and I needed my paperwork. The lady that answered said that the nurse had just walked in and the paper work would be over in five minutes. After waiting longer than that, no fax. So the lab lady called the office and asked where it was. Oh the nurse hadn't walked in after all but they'd fax it as soon as she got there. Then the lab lady says that she has to have it before 9 because they close at noon for lunch so if she doesn't get it before 9 I can't do the test. At this point I am having extreme difficulty not losing my temper at someone. I am already starving. I have had to fast twice in one week. My thought is I don't care if I have to worst case of gestational diabetes ever. I AM NOT DOING THIS AGAIN. So the doctor's office finally gets the paper work faxed at 8:45. She takes me back and does the initial blood draw and then gives me the sweet stuff to drink. This sweet stuff is twice as sweet than the first stuff I had to drink. I didn't have too hard of time with the first one because it wasn't too much sweeter than pop. This one though, whoa! I was struggling by the end and you have to drink it in 5 minutes. I got it down with probably 30 seconds to spare-and the time was 8:56. So I got started and hour later than I wanted to which meant an extra hour of not eating and my cell phone had died so I hadn't been able to call Aaron to let him know I wouldn't be done as early as I thought. But at least I felt calmer in spirit knowing that the test was under way and I would not have to repeat the fast. So I read and read and got my blood drawn at 9:56, 10:56, and 11:56--4 minutes before the lab closed for lunch. Two pokes in each arm. When I got done I looked like a heroin addict. Aaron came by around 10:30 thinking I'd be done but I wasn't. He ran home to get water and an apple for me so I could have something right after I was done. The day improved much once we got out of the lab. We had a gift certificate to Olive Garden so we went and got the soup, salad, bread stick lunch which I love. I couldn't help thinking that if I did have gd that the bread sticks were probably not the best thing to be eating, but I ate them anyway and they were good. One thing about fasting was that I can't remember a meal that tasted that good in a long time. After that we went to the Imax to see The Dark Knight because I hadn't seen it this summer. We bought candy to take to the movie (another bad mood if I actually had GD but I was not in a mood to care and also thought that I might not get to eat candy again for a while if the test came back bad). I got cinammon bears, on of my absolute favorite candy and dark chocolate. So we had a really fun date afternoon after the test was over. Then I got the call today that said test results were normal and I was very happy to hear that even though I had already decided from reading that I probably didn't have it. So that is the story of what now seems like a totally pointless ordeal. So praise God that that all turned out okay and is behind us.
Other news is that Dallas had an ice storm yesterday. Aaron's evening class got cancelled and then they were delayed until 11 this morning. He said the roads weren't too bad when he was driving but he did see a lot of cars on the side of the road. The sun is out and the temps are slowly warming up so most of the ice should be melted for the evening commute home.
Now it is time for me to get back to homework, but I just wanted to let everyone know that the test results turned out good. Thanks for the prayers and concerns.

Good to hear. I could feel your frustration as you told your story. I guess it was twice as frustrating because you kinda knew all along there was no problem.

What did you think of The Dark Knight? We Netflixed it a couple weeks ago, and I was sorta eeaahh, I dunno. I think they went a little over the top on the violence.

Whoa! I just looked at your little timeline thingy...it says only 66 days to go! That's like 2 months! That's not very far away!!!

Glad that everything turned out okay with the test. I agree, the Olive Garden salad and breadsticks lunch is one my favorites ever!!

I was shocked that DISD closed...it was okay having a day off but I'm bummed that we won't get Good Friday off now.

Yay!!! So glad your test results were good. Your eating the candy and Olive Garden cracks me up. I'm still laughing about it. I would totally do the same thing. I know you're so happy to be done with that -- and to still be able to eat yummy carbs and sugar.

good grief! What an ordeal! I'm glad everything worked out, though. And you made me hungry for breadsticks...I'm a little sad to say I love sweets and candy so much that I bet the glucose test wouldn't bother me at all haha. I wasn't that impressed with D.K. either.

yah, i have yet to figure out how my doc feels about natural vs. medicated--i forgot to ask yesterday! haha but i share the same skepticism in the medical field...i think they just prescribe whatever drug the latest rep brought in with no thought as to if it's actually good or not. drew and i have some interesting conversations about this because we have VERY different opinions about MDs. he's a lot more trusting than i am! :)

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building the

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
