Almost Off

Tomorrow we are off to Colorado for three weeks of vacation and cooler weather! It has been 100 or over every day here for the past week or two and the lows at night have been 80. It is supposed to cool off to 90 for a high tomorrow. Wouldn't you know it would wait until we leave to do that. I am so thankful for ac. That's all I can say.
This week has been crazy busy. Somehow I did not realize this was the week we were leaving and so volunteered to help with a VBS our church is doing at an apartment complex. Also, we had three doctor appointments this week and I am trying to get my paper for my class done so it's been insane.
The theme for VBS is Summer Splashdown. They are doing different stories about water from the Bible. Tonight is the last night and then tomorrow is just a party with games and hotdogs and stuff. We won't be there for that. I skipped last night and will skip tonight again to work on my paper. I feel bad but Aaron keeps telling me that is what I should do and he doesn't mind going by himself. There is a kid that that Aaron goes to control. :) This kid's name is Gilbert. He is a Mexican kid that is as wide as he is tall. The first night he was talking and singing in class while other people were trying to talk. Finally Aaron stood up and started heading over to sit by Gilbert. Well I don't know what Gilbert thought Aaron was going to do to him but he jumped out of his chair and was over by the door in about two seconds. It was hilarious! They finally convinced him that Aaron wasn't going to do anything to him. Just sit by him. He settled down after that. The next night he switched classes so they asked Aaron to go in with him. When he saw Aaron he got a really pouty look on his face and wouldn't look at Aaron but he behaved. So far Aaron's presence has encouraged him to behave every night. It cracks me up.
Today we went to the geneticist. Fortunately she did not have anything to add to information about Maddy's condition or any tests she wanted to do. She did tell us a story about some girls that had arthrogryposis that were in one of her mom's college classes. One girl was getting her master's and the other was an artist. I thought that was cool and encouraging. Our risk of having another pregnancy with the same problems is the same risk as any person out there.
Well I need to stop and get stuff finished up for leaving.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

Fall-The Best Season of All

I love fall! I used to be a bigger fan of summer when we lived in Colorado but I have always liked fall and it has definitely risen to the top of my favorite season list since moving to Dallas. Fall means that I actually can go outside and enjoy being outside again. That is especially a relief after this summer. It is so great to be able to take Maddy on a walk in the middle of the day if I want to....and it's a great way to get her to take a nap without a big wrestling match. Fall also means the Texas State Fair, which means all the fried food you can eat, fun with family, and lots of fun animal shows to entertain the two kids--I mean the kid and the kid at heart when it comes to animals.. I usually spend some of the fall season missing the crisp air a beautiful changing colors in Colorado, but this year we actually got to go back to visit Aaron's family for fall break so we got to have a little taste of that as well. Here are some great pictures from our fair ...
