Four Christmases

You know that movie Four Christmases? We lived it. We technically had five Christmases. My pictures loaded up all out of order so I'll just tell about the Christmas of each picture. This was at Aaron's grandparents ranch. They had a real tree. By that I mean they went out and picked it and cut it themselves. I always love Grandma Fletcher's tree because it had a bunch of ornaments she made herself and lots of old ornaments that her mother made. It is hours of entertainment to look at the tree and hear the stories about the ornaments. We got there on Christmas day night and then had Christmas dinner with them the day after Christmas. Aaron's Dad and his wife were there and Anna's sister and her husband came for dinner. We had a good time there.
This is Maddy's Christmas outfit that Aaron's Aunt Sherry gave Maddy. She works at the Salvation army and found it there. Someone had donated it brand new. I will probably redonate it since Maddy will not be small enough to wear it next Christmas. At least she'd better not be! She was so cute in this outfit. We had to wait til after lunch to put it on her because there house was burning up which is why she is in just a diaper in the next picture.
This is us on Christmas day at Aunt Sherry's house. We of course had another yummy Christmas dinner here. I'd better get another half marathon lined up.
This is Christmas eve and Maddy in her Christmas pjs. Rachel bought her some pjs and I was going to have her wear those. I had them by me when Aunt Sherry brought out pjs she'd bought for her. I quickly slam dunked the pjs from Rachel in Maddy's bag and put the other one's on and had Maddy wear Rachel' pjs on Christmas day night. Such is life.
Okay so she obviously had a ton of Christmas outfits but I had to buy her one too and she wore this one CHristmas eve day. SO cute!
This is Christmas eve day with Aaron's brother. Maddy is with her cousins Trenton and Kodi. Trenton is the one holding Maddy. We gave them a book and ten bucks a piece. They were super excited about getting money. Maddy got a really nice eyore blanket that Amanda had made. We had to have a separate Christmas with them because Amanda won't let her kids be around Aaron's mom right now. Long ridiculous story that I will not get started on, but this was why we had a 5th CHristmas.
We went to Andrea Howard's wedding when we were in Montrose. Jessica was the maid of honor so we got to see her. As you can see, she looked fabulous in her bridesmaids dress and Maddy looked pretty cute in the dress she wore too.

We did our Christmas before we left. I don't have any pics of that right now because they are all on the other computer. We had Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner and Rachel and Tricia came over. Before they came over we opened our gifts. Maddy got a ball, a baby mozart dvd, a sippy cup, a cup that could be a bottle, sippy cup or straw, and a beanie hat. Rachel gave her Christmas pjs. It was simple but a great time. Then the next day we left for our trip. We went to Lubbock first and stayed the night and then the next day we car pooled to Colorado Springs with Ethan and Jenna. Everyone came to Mom and Dad's house and we had a great Eckstein family Christmas. Everyone went in together and got Maddy an exersaucer and she absolutely loves it! The next day we took off for Montrose to see Aaron's family.
So I think I've had enough Christmas for awhile. I'm looking forward to a raucous New Year's eve celebration with my family though!

Lots of fun seeing all the relatives huh? We had about 3-4 Christmases too. But they were a little more spread out time wise.

Animal Happenings

It looks like the last update I posted on animals was about going to the sale barn and getting cows. As a reminder we got a calf/cow pair and a "weaned" calf: Chloe, Midnight, and Mooey. Chloe and midnight are some kind of black angus mix and midnight is part Holstein. Midnight and Mooey will eventually be our meat cows. We hope to AI Chloe sometime in the near future for another calf. Midnight, her calf pictured below (much littler in the pic than he is now) is a very good looking steer. He could go to the fair if he wanted. This is a picture of him getting out of his fence and coming in the yard. He still gets out from time to time. Having a mama calf keeps both the steers in line though. They are much better about not getting crazy, unlike some other steers we could name from the past, but won't. We ended up having to feed quite a bit of hay this winter as we had snow cover from November to end of March. We got our barn built about January and began collecting more ...

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Raccoons

We've been plagued with the nasty devils this week. We accidentally left dog food on the porch one night. Fortunately, Aaron saw the raccoon sneaking a snack before he headed to bed. We chased it off but woke up to find one of our chickens had been it's victim. I have been super careful to make sure no food has been left out but the raccoon has been back. I heard a terrible confrontation in the woods on Tuesday night between a raccoon and SOMETHING in the woods. The SOMETHING whimpered as the raccoon hissed and spit. I hope that whatever the SOMETHING was it is ok. It sounded like a dog so I am wondering if it was a coyote vs. raccoon showdown. One of our cats stays out all the time and I thought at first it was her. I was out banging a bucket with a stick and yelling trying to get the raccoon to leave. Turns out the cat was on the deck cool as a cucumber. We had been letting Whiskers and kittens stay outside as well but now we go through the nightly routine of putting them in ...
