Feelin' hot hot hot!

Well the first day of summer is here in typical Dallas fashion. A high of 100 is the forecast for today. Uggg. Fortunately Aaron got me the best summer present for our anniversary--the most comfortable flip flops EVER!! We also went to see Wicked this weekend. It was amazing. Amazing! Aaron thought he wasn't going to understand what was going on because they were going to be singing all the time. (I think he might of been thinking of an opera and not a musical.) Anyway he really enjoyed it too so that tells you how good it was. It was a surprise that we were going. He got Rachel to come watch Maddy for the evening and then took me to dinner at Pappasitos. We had fajitas. Yum! He gave me a card that had the tickets in it. I was super excited about it! It was a great evening.
Saturday night we had some of Aaron's former coworkers from UT Southwestern come over for dinner. They are from China so it was neat to get to visit with them and hear their perspectives on America and things that they did in China. They brought Maddy gifts. Very very generous and nice of them. She got this little tree house and books. She loved all of it. The look on her face when they gave her the tree house was priceless. Her face said "I want that. Mine! All mine!" She wanted to play with it right away. So I tried to take it out of the box but it was a hard job because ever time I had to move it away from her the tiniest bit she started having a fit. She has had hours of entertainment from the tree house and the books. The books are each a different animal and she especially likes the sheep book which is really funny because she's never really thought sheep were that interesting before.

Maddy playing in her room. This is a Hop on Pop character from Dr. Suess. He is about as big as he is. She likes him because he has big eyes and she likes to poke his eyes. She pulled all of the ducks out of her toy box. Coincidence? I choose to believe that she picked all of the ducks out on purpose.

This is how you eat a blackberry. Wait, did I say eat? Why eat it? That's what everyone else does. There are much more creative ways to use blackberries--like face paint. Be sure to push it on the end of your nose really hard so that the inside of your nose turns purple too. A little dab will do you. It only took one small blackberry to accomplish this art work on her face.
More garden produce. We got our first cucumber. Yum!
These are the flowers Aaron gave me Friday night, or as Maddy likes to call them " 'lowers".
Maddy sees her reflection in the dishwasher. She is talking to it. Hilarious! I've got a little Anne of Green Gables on my hands.

Does she call the reflection "Katie" yet? Great pics. Maddy is getting so BIG! I won't know her next time I get to see her.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
