Pumpkins, Mice, and Spiders! Oh My! and Trick or Treat

October was a crazy month. Between school, Aaron, Tammy, and I all getting sick and losing our voices at the same time, The World Series, and Halloween, the month flew by. Maddy was the cutest Minnie Mouse ever for Halloween. We took her to a trunk or treat at a church within walking distance of our house. This Halloween it all clicked for Maddy. We stopped at a couple of houses in the neighborhood on the way over (ones that people were already sitting outside and we didn't have to knock). That got her warmed up enough to the idea of what trick or treat was about that by the time we got to the trunk or treat she was ready to go. She would stop at each car to get candy and grab her treat bag and open it up wide for the person to put the candy in. They also had a place where you could get you picture with Yoda. Maddy had no fear of all the different costumes we saw or spooky decorations we passed walking over to the church but she was terrified of Yoda. We put her on a bench in front of him to get a picture and she freaked out. It was hilarious.

Maddy and I also carved pumpkins Halloween morning. Maddy was the designer. She picked out the shape of the eyes, mouth and nose and then I carved it out. She had a great time making "pumpkin heads".

Look at my ears! I had a hard time convincing her that the ears went on top of her head. She thought they should go over her real ears. Makes sense.

Checking out the loot. When we got home from trick or treating, Maddy headed straight for the coffee table and dumped her treat bag to inspect the haul. She immediately began chowing down on the candy. It was so funny that she knew what to do. By the way, I don't think there is anyone in the world who can get more pure enjoyment out of a piece of sugary candy than a two year old. Maddy also got a plastic spider ring in her treats. I think that was the biggest hit of all. She plays with it every day. She gets it and sings, itsy bitsy spider. there is a video of her doing this below the pic. Enjoy!

Now, as Maddy says, it's "turkey time!" Can't believe it's already November. I'll post about our turkey making activities in another blog.

So cute! And look at her get up from the floor all by herself and walk a few steps! Thanks again for sharing. I love every single post.

Funny how those little simple things like the spider ring become favorites. I remember a little rubber cow that was promo for some dairy thing I brought home, Daniel thought that was the greatest deal. Literally wore it out playing with it over the months

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
