24--Fletcher Style

(times and sequence of events may not be exact as the relation of the facts is solely dependent on my memory)
8:00 a.m., Fletcher household, Saturday February 4

After a leisurely breakfast of french toast or "french toes" as Maddy likes to call it, Aaron calls the mechanic and arranges to take our car in so they can replace the thermostat

9:00 a.m.

We take the car over the mechanics and go do some errands. This includes a lengthy trip to Wal-Mart because Maddy cannot make up her mind about which stickers she wants to buy with her money from Grams.

11:00 a.m.

Get home and spend and hour and a half cutting the dogs hair and giving them a bath. (During the week we had spent several evenings shaving on the dogs as well. We cut about 5 dogs worth of hair off two dogs over the course of the week).

1:00p.m.

Leftovers for lunch and a call from the mechanic. Better not replace the thermostat. Looks like it is the transmission.

3:00 p.m.

Car has been picked up. Aaron takes Maddy outside with him to vacuum out the car and the Rodeo. Mom takes a nap. :)

4:30 p.m.
Holly wakes up and looks out the window. Maddy is inside the car with all the doors shut and Aaron is waving and gesturing to her. Uh oh. Kid locked in car. Holly goes outside and discovers that both sets of keys are in there with her as well.

5:15 p.m.

After about 45 minutes of trying to get Maddy to press the unlock button on the door, we decide to call a locksmith. The locksmith refuses to come because a child is trapped in the car. Our last resort is to call 911.

5:30 p.m.
A policeman, 4 firemen, and large fire truck show up in front of our house. Maddy happily plays away inside the car and gets a kick out of everyone standing around the car trying to get it unlocked.

5:45 p.m.
They get the car unlocked and we have breakfast burritos for dinner. Yum!

6:30 p.m.
Maddy sits on the potty chair so she can get a sticker. No one is watching her. When Aaron goes back to check on her she has one of my Zyrtec pills in her mouth. Aaron places a call to poison control and finds out that it is no big deal. (We think she ate one or two pills before he caught her but we'll never know for sure.)

7:30 p.m.
Bedtime for a little girl who did not take a nap. Aaron, Holly, and Tammy watch a movie
.

10:00 p.m.

Bed time! ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

9:15 a.m. Brookhaven Church, Sunday February 5th
Arrive at church for Bible Class.

10:50 a.m.

Holly reports to the 4 and 5 year old room to help with Bible class during worship hour

11:40 a.m.

With just a few more minutes to go until parents come and get their children Holly tries to pick up/move a child out of the way so other children do not step on him while singing "Father Abraham" and hears a pop and had a bolt of lightning shoot through her back

12:10 p.m.
Holly limps out of church, unable to carry anything and barely able to walk. Manages to make chili for super bowl watching and then spend the rest of the day laying on the floor with an ice pack on her back as Maddy repeatedly asks, "Mama, does your back hurt? You got another kid and hurt your back."

Hey, I think our family can give Jack Bauer a run for his money (although I guess this is more like 28).

hahahahahahaha! This is extremely amusing! Sorry for your stress, though :) Oh dear. Sounds like Maddy is getting rather precocious. Hope this week is calm and breezy.

What I don't understand is how a locksmith can refuse to come unlock a door. That doesn't make sense to me.

Hilarious account, but horrid in real time real life.

The locksmith is an idiot, sorry...that is not an emergency. Now if the car was on fire......

Wow what a weekend!

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building the

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her

One Year Ago Today

One year ago today we found out we were having a little girl. One year ago today, the OB called us into his office and told us that Maddy was not going to survive. One year ago today God heard the prayers of many friends and family and he started working a miracle. One year ago today I thought I would never see my precious little girl alive. One year ago today I was so shocked I didn't and couldn't feel anything but disbelief. One year ago today, God started planning that today a little girl named Madeline Mae Fletcher would be by my side as I write this, talking and playing with her stuffed cow that Aunt Tammy gave her. One year ago today God set out to prove that he is faithful and he hears his people's prayers and that he still does miracles. Today is bittersweet because one year ago today our dreams and plans we had for our new life with our baby girl were destroyed. But one year ago today God started making a new plan to give us a different dream and a different plan.
