It's Fall!...No wait, Summer...no Fall!....it's still Summer (sigh)

We have had constant weather changes over the whole month of a front coming through and bringing more bearable fall like temperatures, desire for hot cider in the evenings, and pleasant strolls outside and then swinging upwards into the 90's again making us long for a dunk in the pool and and iced tea and watermelon. It has wreaked havoc on all of us allergy wise.
A couple of weekends ago, we had one of those fall-like spells and Maddy had been asking for three or four weeks already to get a pumpkin...so what does it matter that it was still 46 day until Halloween. We carved a jack'o'lantern and put it out on the front step. We bought another pumpkin and made pumpkin soup from part of it and froze the rest of it. I put up 18 cups of pumpkin so I have enough to make pumpkin pies til the cows come home. We also roasted pumpkin seed which is always a fantastic treat.

Trying on Tam's shoes has become a new source of entertainment.

Maddy loves waiting outside for Daddy to come home. She also loves tormenting the cat. When I look at this picture, all I can think of is an adaption of one of Papa's saying: Maddy likes Seal better than Seal likes Maddy.

She decided to have a big scoop of  plain margarine for a snack one afternoon. Don't ask, and I'll just say it for you--GROSS!!

And then we fluctuated back to sizzle and fry. A good opportunity to give the dogs a bath and get some pool time.

Last night, Tam and I went to Chihuly Nights at the Dallas Arboretum. They had a display of all these glass sculptures that are lighted at night. It was actually pretty cool. They also had their pumpkin display out for fall. It was really relaxing. It was the first time I've been to the Arboretum when it wasn't just packed with streaming hordes of crazies taking pictures, shoving, and sweating. Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad the other times, but it sure was nice to enjoy the arboretum without having to be within 6 inches of another person all the time.

YESSS! I love that ya'll went ahead and carved a pumpkin this early! haha. I have been drooling over all the Halloween decorations at the store and am on pins and needles to start putting up stuff. I'm thinking of making some tombstones for the front yard... should be fun!

Awesome pics!!! Maddy is "little Tammy" with the trying on of shoes. Remember how Tam would try on all of Mema's shoes and loved the red ones. One of these days I want to visit the arboretum. Looks like such a cool place.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
