Once again, last weekend, we took advantage of our Texas State Park pass and went to Purtis Creek State Park. Purtis Creek is about an hour and a half from Carrollton. It is southeast of Mesquite and it is worth the drive. Fishing is the main attraction. We did not fish. Instead we picnicked, boated, and hiked.
Can you spot the critter (above)?
Probably the thing that we did that was the most fun (and the most work) was rent a a paddle boat. (Or is it pedal boat?) We got our leg workout pedaling the boat around the lake for about an hour. We saw some eagles and a turtle. We also saw spiders. Too many spiders! I think that the weekend we went must have been one of the first weekends people really rented boats much this season because while we were out on the lake we found two spiders crawling on Aaron. Later we figured out that there was a spider nest in the clip on his life vest. When we returned the boat I also saw another, different kind of, spider crawling on the back of my seat. Eek! Maddy had a great time pretending to fish off the back of the boat with a piece of rope.
We hiked a little nature trail loop. Maddy did some hiking and some riding on Daddy's shoulders.
In other news, I just finished my first furniture refinishing project. I actually did not use my sander very much for this project. Maybe next time. Here's a link if you are interested in checking it out: end table project
