Summer Catch Up

Summer flew by too fast. Monday is back to school seems excited about her new school this year. Hopefully she can keep that "school is fun and exciting feeling" and not get the "back to prison" feeling that I get this time of year. Here are some picks of the highlights of our summer.
We went to Colorado over 4th of July weekend and stayed two weeks. We celebrated the 4th in Colorado Springs. Maddy had fun playing with her cousins and making s'mores. We got the girls glo stick since we couldn't have any type of fireworks. They had a lot of fun with those, including using them to sword fight.

Concert on the lawn by Granna. Looks like it was good.
We went to the Garden of the Gods trading post for lunch with my parents. That's always a very relaxing and enjoyable activity. Grandad bought Maddy a bucket of rocks to put through the sluice they have there.

We did lots of hiking. We got rained on one day and ended up looking like drowned rats. Maddy kept falling asleep on the hikes. Since the trails were pretty rough, Aaron ended up giving her shoulder rides. He had arms and shoulders of steel after a couple of days of that.

We also spent some time with Aaron's family. Maddy got to ride Papa's horse, Come Along. She wasn't too sure about it.
Some of the family stayed in a motel in Montrose so we got to do lots of swimming at the pool.
We also got to see our brand new nephew, Dustin.

On our way home, we stopped for the night at Flettcher Ranch. Grandma Fletcher has chickens now so Maddy enjoyed feeding them. She had so much fun she wanted to stay another night. We also stopped at Capulin Monument and hiked around the volcano cone there. That was a really fun stop. Maddy did the Junior Ranger program and got her junior ranger badge at the end of the hike.
 Beautiful New Mexico sky.

 Maddy needs a bang trim.
After we got home from Colorado we spent a week working VBS at our church and then took off for my family reunion. 3 full days of non-stop craziness. We had 9 of the 11 great grandkids there. Grandpa kept them busy with treasure hunts, Nan and Billy provided a pinata, and the kids had fun playing in the water with water guns and eating popsicles. Maddy was in heaven with all the kids to play with. We had our reunion in Texas for the first time ever this year.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
