We spent the first part of Spring Break in Montrose helping to clear out some more of Gram's stuff. We got quite a few heavy pieces of furniture distributed and a lot of this dishes divided up. Aaron's aunt and uncle are going back down this week to stay til the house is completely cleared out and ready to go on the market. They have a lot to do still.
We left Dallas early on Sunday morning. We had to get up at 3:30, which was really 2:30 because of the time change, to get to the airport. Mom and Dad picked us up and brought to cars so we could leave straight from Denver. The plan was for us to take the Explorer and haul our stuff back in a Uhaul to Colorado Springs. We ate breakfast at the Moonlight Diner next to the airport and then started the drive over the mountains. I drank a lot of coffee at the diner. Strategic move because Aaron tried to drive first and almost made it to Georgetown before he had to pull over. (That's barely out of Denver for those who haven't traveled 70 often.) I took over and made it to a rest stop just before Glenwood Canyon. Aaron took the wheel and I passed out hard. We ate lunch at Wendy's, stopped by his aunts, and then headed on to Montrose. We did an initial walk thru of the kitchen, which was our assignment to take care of, went to Chili's for dinner, came back to the house and crashed. It was a long day.
The next day we started going through stuff for real. We stocked up on soup and sand which stuff and pretty much lived on that so we could concentrate on getting things done. We packed and wrapped and packed and wrapped dishes and glassware all day long. We took some r &r that eve and went to Aaron's brother's to play cards. The boys are old enough to play cards now so we played golf. Super fun! Maddy tried to play. She didn't really get the game but provided a lot of comic relief.
The next morning we finished up some packing, met with a Realtor and then tried to rent a uhaul. Turns out uhaul doesn't rent trailers to explorers. So we had to get a storage unit. Boo. Then Aaron, Eric, Kim and Maddy hauled a stock trailer of big stuff to Grand Junction for relatives there. Maddy had a great time on that excursion. It's fun that she's getting old enough to go do that. Aaron said that she even helped carry some of the smaller boxes that they took over. K and I stayed at the house and I did some cleaning. Keksay went to bed before they got back.
One of the fun things the girls did on Tuesday was try on some of Grams's jewelry. She had some clip on earrings. That provided several hours of fun for Maddy.
Early Wednesday morning we headed back over the mountains to the springs. We got to my mom and dad's about 1, ate sandwiches for a late lunch and went to the park by their house. Then we loaded up to go to the airport, ate at Goodtimes in Denver for supper and caught our flight. We got in about 11:20 to Dallas and got hone after midnight and didn't get to bed til 1. Killer trip but it was great to see everyone. Hopefully we can just hang at home and laze around for the rest of break.
