Maddy's 6th Birthday

We have celebrated birthday for a solid week with Aaron and Maddy's birthdays. We started the birthday bash the Wednesday before Maddy's birthday by going to Frozen on Ice. Aaron heard about it and got a wild hair at the last minute to go see it for Maddy's birthday. I am too cheapskate to ever plan an event like this so I hope she's very grateful to her daddy for "the best surprise ever!".
Planted the garden in the midst of the birthday chaos.
It was funny because she picked this dresson her own. It was like, she knew but not really. The show was beyond her wildest dreams. It really was the perfect age to take her because it was magical for her.

We got suckered into cotton candy that came with a crown and the "heart spinner". I had to put a gag on the miser inside me. Disney is extortion with a happy face. Not that we couldn't have said no....
I was surprised how much kelsay enjoyed the show. She did get restless and tired after awhile but she did great.

On Saturday, Maddy had a gymnawithic meet. At first she was scared and nervous. She was just bawling when they did the opening procession. I knew she'd be fine, once she started her routines and she was. Last year she cried on the bar routine. This year she need with a smile. She got second in all her events. She really perked up when she,saw Bethany came to watch her. That made her day.

After the meet, we went to North Main BBQ for lunch. The night before, Aaron asked her where she wanted to eat for her birthday like this: Maddy, would you like to eat at North Main BBQ tomorrow?
Some of her gymnatics buddies were able to join us so it was,fun and worked out great since it was only about 5 minutes from the meet.
On her actual birthday on Monday, we got donuts for breakfast. We opened presents, when she got home from school and I made her birthday dinner of chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, sweet potato fries and green peas.

While she was at school, I finished up the project of painting the master bathroom that foolishly started over the weekend. Glad to have that done! I like the dark gray color but it was so hard to trim out. I was not 100% pleased with the final trim around the mirror but was at the point where if I messed with it anymore I was going to make a major mess.

This is my favorite pic of presents. Granna told Maddy she could have this timer since the timer Maddy used to play with got dismantled by the bomb squad when we went to Minnesota last summer. So Granna mailed it for her birthday. She's yelling, "The clock!!!!!"

Grandpa Jr. She's demonstrating how to use binoculars.
She did not like the homemade Mac n cheese. Wanted the box kind. Really????
We ended the day bird watching and trying out the new binoculars.

Fantastic wrap up! I'm so glad she loved Frozen on Ice. What a great memory to be made! I think you did a great job with the painting. The soil looks so rich and fluffy, you're sure to have great veggies this year. Love you guys!

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
