Halloween

We had a super fun Halloween weekend this year. It was very different than our traditional Halloween. We usually get 50 cent corn dogs at Sonic, hit up a trunk or treat at a church by our house and the trick or treat through the neighborhood back to home.
This year, we started our celebration on Friday when we went to Creatures of Light, a special exhibit at the Perot museum. Back in Feb we went to the Sherlock Holmes exhibit and got talked into a museum membership. They counted our admission on that visit toward the membership so it was hard to pass up. Anyway, all that to say that we got to do this exhibit on a member only preview day and it was awesome!!! Hardly anyone was in the exhibit and the kids actually got to look at everything and interact with the exhibits as long as they wanted. The exhibit was about bioluminescense so it was very dark except for the glow in the dark stuff. The exhibit covered bioluminescence, florescence, and phosphorescence. The kids loved it. I was kind of wondering how long Kelsay would last but she loved it. At one point she got spooked by something and started crying and running saying "A ghost is gonna get me!" No idea where she picked that up. Maddy used to be obsessed with ghosts but then Granna told her a scary ghost story and she won't let anyone in the house say the word "ghost" without getting them in trouble. Anyway it took us about an hour and a half to go through the exhibit. Both kids made it through engaged and interested but they were definitely tired when we got done. If you get a chance to go to the exhibit I highly recommend it. I learned a lot from it myself.
After the exhibit we went to the children's room and let the kids play and then they got to split a corn dog and fries at the museum cafe.
About two weeks before Halloween, Maddy asked if we could have a party. Since Halloween was on a Saturday it seemed like a good time to say yes. Maddy did a great job planning the party. She came up with everyone wearing costumed and a pumpkin carving contest. We looked through Halloween food recipes and picked out what we were going to make and she even made a haunted house in the living room. We decorated but kept that part pretty simple. She even looked up some Halloween jokes on Google. (Every time I tell her that I can't do something because I don't know how she tells me "just look it up on Google!"."
We made ghost pizzas, ghost pretzels, a veggie tray, bloody float punch, and Halloween shaped crackers. Tam brought mummy hotdogs and Cindy brought apricot bugs.

A while back Maddy made up super hero identities for all of us. She told me and Aaron how to dress as our superhero characters. Aaron was Super Wise. He steals bad guys smarts with his computer. I was Super Smart. I read the bad guys' minds. Tammy was Super Build. She builds the stuff we need to fight the bad guys.

The pumpkin carving contest turned into a decorate your pumpkin with a sharpie marker. Jeff was the off site judge. Kelsay won scariest pumpkin,
Jude got most creative, Bethany got best Halloween theme and Maddy got best all around.

In the evening we went to trunk or treat at our church and helped pass out candy. The kids had a great time and got lots of candy. Kelsay wanted to just stop and eat the candy at first but once she got that if she kept going car to car she would get more candy, she was all about it.
We also walked down the block to see a house this guy had totally decked out in an Egyptian theme. He had dancers in the front yard. The guy we watched did this robot kind of dance. It was like watching a street performer in NYC. At that point Maddy said she had a headache so we changed into pj's stopped at Walgreens to grab children's Tylenol and the kids were passed out by the time we got home. So much fun!

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
