First Week of School and Other stuff

This week, Maddy started school. Her first day was Tuesday and they went for half a day. She picked out a cute outfit and packed her cute backpack and was ready, but nervous, to go. It was a new experience to head to the first day of school from a campsite. She had a good day but came home complaining of a headache. She told me she didn't drink water that morning so I assumed she was dehydrated. I made her drink a lot of water and gave her some tylenol.
Also on Tuesday we had to go our to the modular home were thinking about getting. They canceled our inspection AGAIN so we were just getting measurements for replacing flooring. The inspection is supposed to happen Thursday this week.
People showed up to seal the foundation. They basically painted it with tar.

On Wednesday, we dropped Maddy off. Everyone seemed good. About an hour later, Kelsay got to feeling bad. I thought she was just tired. She slept, woke up, threw up and then felt better. So we went on a hike. It was a trail called Red Rock Trail which is less than a mile from our house. Really pretty. It is a 4.4 mile loop. We probably did about a mile.

Just as we finished that hike, the school called and said Maddy was sick and we needed to pick her up. She had mild fever and vomiting that afternoon/eve and Kelsay's fever came back so we spent the afternoon being sick. THe next morning everyone seemed better. Maddy went to school again and made it the whole day. She was tired when she came home. Aaron had to go to Dallas Friday for a meeting so we ran into the Springs after school to leave him for the night so he could catch his plane the next morning. We got to eat some yummy enchiladas made by Tric and be a part of Uncle Kev's bday celebration. Then, my mom came back to the camper with us and stayed the night and we got up for school the next morning. Well, poor Maddy was just really not wanting to go. I think she was still feeling a bit off from being sick and she was feeling out of place since she hadn't really had a chance to make friends yet. So I took her to school. An hour later, I got a call from the nurse's office that she wasn't feeling good. So I went down to the school. When I got there, it was very apparent that she was just feeling homesick. So we had a pep talk and went back to class. She had a better afternoon and made a friend. So we celebrated making it through a very rocky first week of school with ice cream from Sonic.
We headed back to the Springs to eat supper with Nanna and Grandad and pick up Aaron. Aaron was supposed to get in at 8 but there were rain storms here and in Dallas. So he kept getting delayed 30 minutes. Then they delayed because they needed a pilot. Then they couldn't find enough stewardesses. Finally he took off from Dallas at 10 MDT. He got in at midnight. I went to pick him up. We were both so tired. Then they said the jet bridge wasn't working so I had to wait an extra 30 minutes to get him, so we didn't get back to my parents til 1 a.m.
A cold front came through yesterday and I saw it was 39 out at Woodland Park for a low. Hopefully it won't be quite that frosty tonight. It could get chilly in the camper. It was nice to get to stay the night in a real bed and in a warm house last night. We head back tonight so we can go to church tomorrow. We have been visiting Woodland Park Community Church and are considering placing membership there. We still have a few things  to check out and people to talk to, so we will see what happens. Maddy loves the class there and we did a new member class last Sunday eve and really liked what they presented.

Animal Happenings

It looks like the last update I posted on animals was about going to the sale barn and getting cows. As a reminder we got a calf/cow pair and a "weaned" calf: Chloe, Midnight, and Mooey. Chloe and midnight are some kind of black angus mix and midnight is part Holstein. Midnight and Mooey will eventually be our meat cows. We hope to AI Chloe sometime in the near future for another calf. Midnight, her calf pictured below (much littler in the pic than he is now) is a very good looking steer. He could go to the fair if he wanted. This is a picture of him getting out of his fence and coming in the yard. He still gets out from time to time. Having a mama calf keeps both the steers in line though. They are much better about not getting crazy, unlike some other steers we could name from the past, but won't. We ended up having to feed quite a bit of hay this winter as we had snow cover from November to end of March. We got our barn built about January and began collecting more ...

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

We Need Your Prayers

Many of you have probably heard all ready, but Aaron and I got some devastating news today. Our baby will probably not survive outside the womb. They did an amneostasis this afternoon to test for chromasomal defects, which is what they think it is right now. I know I am spelling everything wrong so I hope what I write makes enough sense for everyone to understand what is going on. The specialist we went to see feels that it is triploidy or triamias 18. Those may not be the right names but they are two of the three chromasomal defects. The other is down's syndrome. He did not feel that it was down's. The other two defects are fatal so if we carry the baby to term it will not live but for a few days or hours if one of the defects above is the problem. We will know in 2days. If it is not one of those then we will have to go to a cardiologist and a genetic counselor. The baby had clubbed hands and feel and it's heart is not formed correctly and is not in the right place. Becau...
