This was the long anticipated fair weekend! Eleven of us got together and went to the Texas State Fair. It was a great day! And a great weekend. Jessica came in on Wednesday so we got lots of good hanging out time with her, and then everyone else came in on Friday. We played games Friday night and then on Saturday morning we got up, ate breakfast, and headed to the fair. We parked at Tricia's house and walked about a mile to get to the fairgrounds. When we got there the ticket people wouldn't let Tricia in because she didn't have her school id so she and Matt had to walk all the way back to her apartment to get it. Meanwhile the rest of us went to get a corn dog (after the usual long drawn out family debate about what we should do) and then went to see a dog show with these dogs that did tricks catching frisbees including jumping into this big pool of water. Tricia and Matt made it back just in time to see this show. Next we went and saw the sand sculpture and then went to the bird show, which is Aaron's favorite thing at the fair. After that we went to this stunt show thing where they rode motorcycles in a cage and climbed up so really tall poles and then got on this seesaw type thing that had to round hampster wheel things on each end but the round things didn't turn. I wasn't very impressed by their show which was crazy because on of the guys on the seesaw thing almost killed himself about 5 times but that just really annoyed me because I felt like he should have practiced more so that we all wouldn't feel like we were going to have to watch him die every second. After this we split up for a little bit and Aaron and I and Ethan and Holly went to the Butterfly Gardens. They were really cool. It was very peaceful there and a good break from the crowds (game was out by now). There were lots of monarchs because they are migrating but we saw a couple of other kinds of butterflies. We also so some really neat caterpillars. We met up with everyone else at the pig race after the garden thing. After the pig race we got some more food and went to the craft building. Then we went to a light show that they had really hyped up as a new thing at the fair this year but it was not good. They should have called it a show with some lights. It was mostly just different videos of graphics to music that they showed on a big screen with occasional fireworks and lights. After the light show we headed back to Tricia's (Matt and Brittany got a ride with Rachel back to our car and then we all stuffed ourselves in the Isuzu so we wouldn't have to walk back.) It was a great day. We spent about 8 hours there.
The foods I had at the fair were: corndogs, olive bites (my hands down favorite a second year in a row), turkey leg, lemon and strawberry sorbet, texas twisters (potatoes cut in a slinky shape), chicken fried bacon, and a pretzel dog. Yep, I had a lot of junk, but a lot of it was shared and we were there for 8 hours. It was so good but I hope I don't eat like that again til Thanksgiving.
Matt, Brittany, and David left Saturday night, but the rest spent the night with us and we went to church this morning and then to Sugar Baby's for lunch. Yum! Yes, I definitely don't need anymore to eat for a while. :)
Anyway it was a great weekend and it was great to see everyone, especially Ethan and Nat since I hadn't seen them since they got back from Europe.
