Drama, drama, drama!

Roslyn (named after some science person by Aaron). She is the first tri colored puppy we have ever had. Her tan markings started coming in about a week ago. She has the tan "eyebrows" though you can't really see them in this picture. You can see a little of the tan color on her hip. I have always want to have a tri puppy so this is really cool.

Roley the puppy. A b/w male.

The Onsie? Is this what that is? This is the first gift we got for the baby.

First order of drama, I felt the baby move for the first time on Wenesday. I was writing an email to my mom and I suddenly felt like someone thumped me from inside my stomach. It took a second before I realized, "Hey! That was the baby!" It was so cool.
We have had a little dog drama since last I wrote. Jessica Jr. is back with us. The lady who bought her called Sunday right after we got out of church to say that the puppy was not working out with her dog. Her dog was getting upset at the puppy and growling at her and she just didn't think she could handle it. She didn't want her money back she just wanted us to find the puppy a good home. The puppy had only been with her for 2 days. She was crying when she gave the puppy back and Aaron felt sorry for her but I really didn't. If she wanted the puppy that bad, then keep it. It takes dogs and people more than 2 days to adjust to a new situation. I realize that there are some situations where the dog really does not work out with another animal that is already in the home, but this was not one of those cases. If I'd paid $400 for a puppy you can bet that my dog would have quickly come to an understanding that the puppy was there to stay and that he'd better get used to it. So my conclusion is that this lady had no gumption and needlessly tortured herself in giving back a puppy she really wanted. The lady gave us a crate, dog dish, leash, collar, etc. to give to the person who takes JJ next. I guess the bright side is that we can possibly sell her twice, but since we have had only 4 calls from our ads and only 1 person besides this lady actually buy a dog, I don't have bright hopes of that. Seriously, if any of you want a free puppy you can have her and all her stuff. She really is a sweet little dog. I would say one of the top two puppies out of the litter. She is really willing to work with her owner and I think she will be easy to train. I doubt anyone who reads this is really looking for a dog, but if you happen to know of a person that is let me know and I can hook them up.
Other drama that has been going on is that Aaron's family is falling apart. It all started about a month ago with Kim (his mom) having a bipolar episode. As soon as they got her recovered enough from that to go back to work, Amanda went into the hospital with her swelling problem. The tests for rheumatoid arthritis came back negative, but her inflammation levels are sitting around 90%. Normal is 20%. So she will be doing more tests. We also found out that Eric, Aaron's brother, is getting tested for diabetes because he has been having some health problems. On top of that his cousin, Tracy, is in the hospital with vertigo. She is there because it is not coming from her inner ear so they have been doing MRI's and spinal taps to try to find out the source of the problem, Aaron's Uncle has a kidney stone, and Aaron's grandma hurt her back so bad she can't stay by herself right now. So it is a mess because they are all sick so there is not much they can do to help each other out. They definitely need a lot of prayers right now.
I also think Obama winning the presidency was a pretty dramatic event. I have to say I'm disappointed but not shocked or devastated. Some think this is just another sign of the moral decay of America. Maybe, but I know that lots of Christians in this country were praying for the right leader, and I think that a lot of devoted Christians probably cast their vote for Obama so it is all in God's hands and it's not time to worry yet. America is by no means Sodom and Gomorrah. The country has it's problems and issues, but there are many people still who are moral and seeking to do God's will in their lives, both private and public. America has always had it's problems. The country has always needed good Christians to stand up and speak out about what is right. The people who did this in the past abolished slavery, made great progress against racism, and helped women get the right to vote, etc. Christians are speaking out about abortion and homosexuality today and I believe that they are making progress against abortion. So all this to say that it is easy to look at all the bad things going on and despair of the future, but we should be looking at all the good things going on and asking how we can support those good things.
We got our first baby gift this week. A lady in Aaron's chemistry lab who is from Brazil gave it to us. Aaron told her about our experiment and that we thought it was a girl so she bought the baby a onesie (sp?). Pink of course. It looked like pj's to me, but I read the tag when I was putting it away this morning and it said "garment not intended for sleepwear". So when does the baby wear this? It is also a 3-6 month size so the baby is going to be wearing it in the hottest part of the year. I think I would suffocate if I had to wear that thing in the middle of July. So I am not at all sure how to use this piece of clothing. This gift has just emphasized to me even more how ignorant I am about babies and everything that goes with them. I do appreciate her thoughtfulness and I hope it's a girl for real because I think she will not trust anything Aaron says in class ever again if it's not! :D
Last night Tricia and I went to Sugar Baby's BBQ. I love going there because it is cheap, good food, and the lady there always recognizes us. She is from Arkansas and has two front teeth missing and is just the cutest lady ever. She is moving back to Arkansas at the first of the year so we will miss her. Rachel was going to come but got side tracked because she had to go pick something up and it took a lot longer than she thought so she didn't make it. Maybe next week. It looks like the Thanksgiving plan is to go out to Mema and Papa's and meet my parents there so we'll definitely get to see her then. We'll also swing by Lubbock for a couple of days with my parents and see Grandpa and Grandma and Ethan. I am looking forward to getting out of Dallas for a bit.

haha, you crack me up on the baby knowledge, or lack of. don't worry. we didn't know much either! we still don't, but are learning as we go! as for that onesie, it looks like something i would put a baby to sleep in. i don't see anything there that would cause strangulation issues or whatnot. and, remember that babies don't hold their temp that well, so although you may be burning up, they need an extra layer than we do when they're little. Abriella was born in July, but we had her in some stuff like that even in the heat of the summer, but only when sleeping. also, 3-6 months could put you into october (depending on how fast the kiddo grows), so that would be a little cooler (potentially). anyway, there will be many things that you won't ever get the child in. don't worry. just keep it for another kid, or consign it! that's what we do!

are you going to find out the gender at your sono (provided baby cooperates)?

we'll keep aaron's family in our prayers.

I am laughing too. I was about as ignorant as they come when you were born. I always put you in a onesie for sleeping. Beats me why you wouldn't.

poor little jj. if i could afford a pet and had a yard, i would take my little namesake, but it's not to be.
is the baby moving a lot now after that first move? this onesie stuff is very educational. if i would have thought of a onesie, that's not what i would have pictured. ha

Man! You have a lot of stuff going on. Hope that things get better. I'm going to ask around at church to see if anyone might want a pup. I'll let you know.

oh, I also wanted to say that although I was quite disappointed with the election and the American people for being so shallow and gullible, our all-powerful God can work through any man, no matter how incapable I might think him. So, praise be to God for being bigger than our silly elections.

Feeling the baby move really made pregnancy real to me, the sonogram will make it even more real, it is so amazing to see your baby for the first time and actually see it's little heart beating and it's sweet baby profile. As for the PJ's/onesie, I always got stuff that the age didn't match the season, I will often give it to someone else that has a baby in that stage and season. It is good to make friends with people that have babies the relatively same age as yours, you will learn so much about what to do and what not to do. You can never have too many friends!

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
