Glucose Test

Well, more complications for us. The doctor called this morning and said my level was a little high on the glucose test. They want me to go back to the lab for a 3 hour test and have my blood drawn every hour to check further how I am breaking down sugar. I don't know when I am going to go in for three hours and I don't do well fasting for long periods of time so it is going to be hard. I feel like the lab that my doctor uses is very incompetent. The lady that did the test the first time did not tell me that I needed to note the time when I finished drinking the sugar stuff so when she asked me I just had to say well I think it was this time, but I didn't really know, so I am hoping that the problem is that she took my blood too early and that everything is fine, but is still a pain in the butt to have to go in for a 3 HOUR test. Arrggg! So please pray for my attitude about this this week. Sometimes I get into a pity party for myself feeling like I have gotten so ripped off from being able to enjoy being pregnant and all the excitement that comes with a first baby. But I still have so much to be thankful for and plenty of things to be excited about.

So sorry, Holly. Just know that the 1 hr is just a screening test, and lots of people "fail" it. The majority pass the 3 hr test, which is a more diagnostic test. Still irritating, I know, to have to take the 3 hr. Praying for your stomach to be at ease (literally) when you take the test.

I had to do the three hour test when I was pregnant with Cooper. I threw up the stuff because I was not used to that much sugar in anything and I hadn't eaten breakfast. Sooooo, don't stress over it. Also, one of my friends was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and all they asked her to do was lay off the sweets, so it is NOT a big deal if you "don't pass" the 3 hour test. Also, and if you don't want to do this, fine, with Clayton I only drank half of the stuff and it was much better. I poured the rest down the sink in the dr.'s office. I knew I didn't have GD, so it was not a big deal, but I understand if you don't want to do that. :)

Concentrate on all the fun times to come with your little girl years from now!

I wouldn't recommend pouring the drink down the sink. I have seen the skinniest women with GD. It's not something to mess around with if you do have it. They aren't trying to torture you by testing you.

When do you have this test? Will it be soon? Sometimes it's kind of scary that you just have to take these doctors and nurses at their word for their recommendations and what they say you need...I'm so disgusted about people trying to "get over" that my distrust now extends to the medical field, which is sad and just lets you know I've been burned a few times too many (by car mechanics or car insurance or computer repair people mostly but still)...I mean I know they really are probably valid concerns, but hey, why not make several thousand more dollars while they're at it. And the only thing you can do is go along with it...just in case. Sorry for the soapbox...and if there turns out to be something that you do need to keep your eye on I will feel really bad and owe doctors everywhere an apology!!! But I, along with everyone who loves you, knows its much better to be on the safe side, so excuse my rantings about our greedy society! Hope it goes okay and hope it's the last test for awhile!

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

We Need Your Prayers

Many of you have probably heard all ready, but Aaron and I got some devastating news today. Our baby will probably not survive outside the womb. They did an amneostasis this afternoon to test for chromasomal defects, which is what they think it is right now. I know I am spelling everything wrong so I hope what I write makes enough sense for everyone to understand what is going on. The specialist we went to see feels that it is triploidy or triamias 18. Those may not be the right names but they are two of the three chromasomal defects. The other is down's syndrome. He did not feel that it was down's. The other two defects are fatal so if we carry the baby to term it will not live but for a few days or hours if one of the defects above is the problem. We will know in 2days. If it is not one of those then we will have to go to a cardiologist and a genetic counselor. The baby had clubbed hands and feel and it's heart is not formed correctly and is not in the right place. Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...
