Weekend and Some New Tricks

I don't have any pictures right now :( but I will have some great ones soon because we got family pictures taken on Saturday!! They are amazing. A girl from Aaron's biochem class and her fiancee do family photography as a hobby. She is trying to get into med school and he is trying to get into a school to get his Ph.D in math. Anyway, if that doesn't work out for them, they could totally do photography for a living. Aaron never gets excited about pictures but he loves i mean LOVES these pictures. We haven't seen them all yet, just the ones they have on their website. If you haven't been to our house in the last 24 hours and gotten the internet tour of our family pics from Aaron :) you can go to www.mattandivy.com and see them. They are mixed in with other families pictures so you kind of have to look around a little bit. Maddy is the little cover girl for their website right now.
We had an extremely busy weekend. On Friday we went to PT/OT. It was a really encouraging appointment because the remeasured Maddy's range on her elbows. The first time her elbows were at 40 degrees (right) and 60 degrees (left). This time they were....drum roll please....15 degrees (right) and 25 degrees (left). (By the way this means how many degrees she has to go to be extending her arms out fully.) The OT said this was the most improvement in the shortest time she'd seen. She thought that maybe her elbows even had a little more but since Maddy always pulls her arms in a little when you touch them those were the measurements she got. All I can say is PRAISE GOD! That was so awesome to hear. She is also now turning her head to neutral position from the right on her own which is a big improvement. Now we need to get her to rotate to the left on her own and we'll be doing good. On top of all these improvements she has learned a couple of new tricks. One is smiling. Her smile is so cute. She was doing it a little on Memorial Day weekend but she has started smiling quite a bit more in the last week or so. She smiled at the OT on Friday! Her smile is so cute because she has a dimple up by her eye that pops out when she does it. I still haven't managed to get a picture of her doing it, but hopefully soon. She has also learned to use her fist to put her paci back in her mouth. It is so cute.
Anyway our weekend was fun but crazy. We cooked out with Rachel on Friday night--you can see her blog for a recap of that. Then on Saturday we took pictures and then cooked out with our small group from church. We provided the home grown beef patties and everyone really enjoyed them. On Sunday we had one of Aaron's students and her husband over for dinner. She is going to med school in Chicago and they are moving in a couple of weeks so it was our last chance to get together with them. She is ciliac and lactose intolerant. She brought gluten free brownies that were amazing. If I hadn't of know I would never have been able to tell anything different about them, but the texture was a little different from regular brownies. Also, we got a surprise visit from Matt and Brittany who were on their way back from dropping some kids off at a singing school. That was a very nice surprise to get to catch up with them for a little bit.
All for now. We have PT and Scottish Rite this week so it should be a pretty laid back week hopefully. Hope you all are enjoying summer. The Dallas furnace is scheduled to heat up this week.

Maddy's sandals are too cute, and the pictures are really amazing!! I am so thankful she is improving so quickly, and that is really good that she can get her paci in her mouth with her little hand.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
