The Big 1

A post with tons of pictures. Well, what kind of parents are we? For her birthday, Maddy went to therapy and got a new kind of hand splint for both hands. These are supposed to help her bear weight better on her arms and hands and help her with things like pushing into a sitting position.
She cried and fussed the whole time they were making them and when she had to try them on at therapy. Then when we got home I fed her and then got them out to put on for the picture. She was just as happy as could be and very curious to see what the new "toys" mom was putting on her hands were. She likes banging them together and hearing the plastic click. Of course they are pink. She looks pretty cute wearing them.

The birthday girl this morning. We sang happy birthday to her when she got up but her attitude was pretty much, quit this singing and give me my oatmeal. Let's just get on with the day's routine people!
Maddy absolutely loves Houdini. She is always trying to get him to come see her when he is inside. She loves for him to lick her hands (disgusting!) and she loves petting him and pulling on his fur.
We had our baby dedication at church this Sunday. This is what Maddy wore. One of the ministers prayed with us for her and she got a baby Bible and a certificate and a rose. She just looked adorable in this outfit.
Maddy enjoyed her cake. She liked the icing but not the cake I should say. She was covered head to toe in cake. It was great.
One tiny candle on a huge cake. I ordered WAAAAAAAYYYYY too much cake.
We blew up balloons for the party. Maddy loved playing with them and so did all the other kids.
Maddy in her b-day outfit.
This is a few days before her birthday. She started playing with the mail which included b-day cards and ended up on top of her mess. Let me say that I have never met a child this young that was so into her b-day cards and treated them with such care. She looks at each one for a very long time and acts like she is reading it. It is crazy! So thanks to all who sent cards. They were a big hit with Maddy.

Maddy got balloons on Thursday from Aaron's department at DBU. She loves these balloons they have and still are providing hours of entertainment.
The b-day party was great. We had 45 total here. Lots of kids so it was pretty active. Fortunately it was a nice day and the kids spent a lot of time outside. We discovered at the party that Maddy loves crackers and she can eat a whole cracker without help. Now every time she sees a cracker she wants one. We also had a great response to the opportunity to give to Scottish Rite. I'm still working on getting the details of the donation finished up so I will post after I've turned the checks over to SR on Thursday when we go in for an appointment. Thanks to everyone who made Maddy's b-day so special--those who attended the party, sent cards, gave gifts, gave to Scottish Rite, wrote her a note, called, texted, etc. You truly made her first birthday special.

The ever curious observant Maddy is true to character with the new splints. Hope they do what they are intended to do. I was blessed to be able to be a part of the b.d. celebration. So fun, so thankful.

I like the icing best, too! She's smart. It cracks me up how big Houdini looks next to her. It's like something out of Narnia!

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
