Actually, I'm not even really out for summer. I will be doing an online class this summer. That is okay. I will need something to keep my mind from turning into mental mush over the summer. The class I'm taking will be the last core class required for my degree. After that I will have 3 hours of electives left and 12 hours of English classes. I have an A+ and an A so far. I know C.S. Lewis will shoot down the 4.0 that I've enjoyed in grad school so far. It makes me mad because I feel like any other teacher, any good teacher, would have at the very least given me an A- for the work I did in this class. I honestly feel like I put the work into this class to get an A and that makes getting B I'm expecting so disappointing. If I'd only done enough to deserve a B, I wouldn't be disappointed. Anyway, enough of that.
So this week is the week of Scottish Rite. We went on Monday to get Maddy recasted. Aaron's dad was with us. He was here for the weekend and I'll tell more about that in a minute. So the casting went well but she was again really fussy afterward and I probably did not get more than 30 min. snatches of sleep between her crying all night. I had her in bed with me but I had to hold her paci in her mouth to keep her from crying and everytime I'd fall asleep it would fall out and we'd both wake up. Poor baby! Anyway, she kind of started getting better the next day but was still fussier than usual all of Tuesday and woke up several times during the night. Fortunately Aaron took care of it that night cause I was wiped out. So the next morning she was still fussy and would wake up about an hour and a half crying really hard after I put her down for her nap. Really unusual for her so I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Well when I got her up around 11 to feed her I was looking at her leg and thought, "They did not put that cast up as high as they usually do. She has a lot of skin showing between her diaper and her cast. Then I looked closer and realized that I was seeing the top of her knee! I looked at her foot and it was pulled way up inside the cast. Well, that freaked me out! So I called SR and fortunately got the nurse on the first ring. I told her what was going on and she made an appointment for us that afternoon. So we went down and got that cast off. We didn't even have to cut it. It just slid right off her leg. Then the doc put a new cast on. He said in a way it was a good thing because it means her knee is getting a lot straighter. I didn't know this but I guess when they are casting just for club feet the usually bend the knees to prevent the casts from sliding off. On Friday we are supposed to go in to get a tendon cut in her right foot to start bringing the foot up. He said when we do that it will probably stop the cast sliding issue because her foot will be holding the cast on. I hope that is the case becuase I can tell the cast has moved down a little bit already today. I think I will probably just wait til tommorow unless it gets way off. So far it is just a tiny bit off. I can tell becuase I put a pen mark on the inside by her toes so I could tell right away if there was any movement. We've been keeping her foot propped up trying to at least work against gravity to prevent it from coming off. So this week has been a doozy.
Aaron's dad was here over the weekend and we had such a good time with him. He loved Maddy and she thought Grandpa Steve was pretty alright. She loved being held by him. It was really cute. You could tell he did not want to go home and leave her when he left on Tuesday. We did several things while he was here. We went out for Barbque, burgers, and mexican food, went to church, went to DBU and showed him around there, and he put in digital thermostats for us and fixed our garage door. We really, really appreciated that.
Backing up, on Friday we went to the drive-in in Ennis to see Star Trek. It was so fun! Ennis is about an hour away and very country. We took the huge truck we are borrowing so we fit right in. It was a perfect temperature to sit outside and watch a movie. Maddy slept through most of it. She did really good. We both really liked the movie.
I think that about covers it from here for now. I will let all of you know how the tendon procedure goes on Friday. The doctors say it is no big deal, but I am the mom so I am nervous about it. Please be praying that everything will be fine and that it won't be too painful for Maddy.
