The journey to hearing continues...

First, let me announce that the family texas state fair day is October 10th and that Aaron can get you fair tickets through DBU's student affairs office for $12. So let us know if you want us to pick one up for you.

Maddy's appointment with the ENT was at 9:15 this morning. We waited and waited and he did not come in til 10:30. Aaron was pretty irritated because he is going to be late for his class. Bad. Anyway, he explained the ABR results and what they could mean and also looked in her ears with a microscope to check for fluid. Her left ear he is 90% sure has fluid. He said it is hard to tell because her ear canals are so small but it doesn't look transparent. The right ear does not have fluid. So the first step is to get a tube put in the left ear and drain the fluid. From the ABR results one of the possibilities is that she could have normal or close to normal hearing in her left ear without the fluid. The right ear definitely has hearing impairment. If her left ear is functioning at or close to full capacity we may be draining the fluid and she will be fine. If both ears are impaired she will get hearing aids. If she has cochlear damage we'll have to look at hearing implants. As of now he is hoping that the left ear is fine, but the most likely possibility is that we'll need hearing aids. Getting the fluid off the left ear will allow them to get a better assessment of what is going on. She will have to go back and get another ABR about a week after they put the tube in. He said he normally lets kids have fluid on their ears for a long time, but in her case because we can't get a clear picture of what's going on with her hearing he wants to go ahead and put the tube in. So we are scheduled to get a tube in her left ear on the 14th. The procedure itsself takes about 5 minutes. The hard part is going to be that we have to be there at 5:30 in the morning with surgery scheduled at 7. At least they did schedule her the first surgery because she is a baby and she can't have any food or drink after midnight. If they start on time she should never be too hungry cause she usually doesn't wake up until around 7 anyway. So that is the run down. He said we are not in a huge rush to get the hearing aids and that even up to a year she should be alright as far as speech development goes. But we will try to get things moving sooner than that obviously. So it will still be a little while before we know what is going on but this is the next step.
Other news is that our house in Ft. Collins is under contract. The inspection went pretty good but the lady trying to buy it has an fha loan so they want us to fix one of the siding panels and the roof. The HOA is responsible for both of those items so hopefully the will cooperate and have that done. The siding will be no big deal. I think they fixed it for us once before, but I don't know what they are going to say about the roof. We really need them to cooperate because I don't think our renters are going to want to stay there now that we've tried to sell the place and if this lady doesn't buy the house and our renters move out we are up the creek without a paddle.
Hope all of you are having and enjoying nice fall weather. It has been amazing weather for Dallas for this time of year. I am actually wearing a long sleeved shirt right now.

I sure hope draining the fluid helps with her hearing. It would be such a relief. I wish we could come down for the fair weekend. We are probably going to go to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque that weekend.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building the

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her

One Year Ago Today

One year ago today we found out we were having a little girl. One year ago today, the OB called us into his office and told us that Maddy was not going to survive. One year ago today God heard the prayers of many friends and family and he started working a miracle. One year ago today I thought I would never see my precious little girl alive. One year ago today I was so shocked I didn't and couldn't feel anything but disbelief. One year ago today, God started planning that today a little girl named Madeline Mae Fletcher would be by my side as I write this, talking and playing with her stuffed cow that Aunt Tammy gave her. One year ago today God set out to prove that he is faithful and he hears his people's prayers and that he still does miracles. Today is bittersweet because one year ago today our dreams and plans we had for our new life with our baby girl were destroyed. But one year ago today God started making a new plan to give us a different dream and a different plan.
