Somehow, having a grandkid and great-grandkid to take to visit the grandparents gives family time a whole new meaning. We went out to Farwell this weekend. My cousin, Rachel, drove with us. It made the trip seem much shorter to have three drivers. We got to Farwell about 2 in the morning on Saturday. When we got to my grandparents house, Maddy was wide awake and ready to play. She laid in her playpen for the longest time turning and tossing around and thumping her heels on the mat in the bottom. FINALLY she settled down and went to sleep.
Saturday was the family meal day. All the Embry clan came over to Mema and Papa's and ate supper. Brandon and Amanda still have their foster kids so we got to see them again. Between the three kids the party was pretty lively. After supper the guys went out and shot clay pigeons. I went out at Aaron's request and embarrassed myself with a few shots that came no where close to the target.
Sunday was church and potluck day. The potluck was really good. The ladies in these farm towns can cook! I usually am not a big fan of potluck thanks to many horrible potluck experiences growing up in Bloomfield, but this one was really good. After church, everyone came over to visit a little bit more in the afternoon. It was really nice that we got to see everyone so much.
A funny story from the weekend: There is an egg farm close to where my grandparent's live. This egg farm has 3 million chickens. They had a fire recently and lost 800,000 chickens in the fire. So on Sunday afternoon, my uncle was telling my mom the details of the fire. My papa is hard of hearing so sometimes he misses out on what's going on around him. I was sitting by Papa and he was looking at some pictures that were being passed around. One of them was a picture my Mema had taken of the smoke they could see from their house coming off the fire. So he shows the picture to me and says: "Did you hear about the chicken fry? Burned up a billion chickens!"
So we are now coming out of a great weekend into a crazy week. Please keep us in your prayers this week. Maddy has her sedated ABR for her hearing tomorrow and then her pre-op visit on Friday. I happen to have class that Friday as well so it will be a hectic day. My mom is coming in on Friday to be here for the surgery. Then Monday is the big surgery day. Please just pray that we'll all have peace, that all the medical procedures will go smoothly, and that Maddy will have a quick and uncomplicated recovery from surgery.
