Laughs and Lessons From the Cowtown

We ran the Cowtown Half-Marathon in Ft. Worth today. Before we start the race and after we finish the race I always wonder why I run these things. But during the race I know why. Quick shout out to Hannah our baby sitter today. She was awesome! For those who haven;t heard and are interested in times:

Aaron: 1.41.27

Mom: 2.02.49

Me: 2.08.34


So a few lessons and laughs from the cowtown:

1. Always leave earlier than you think you need to to get to the race. We left a little later than planned and poor Aaron had to start the race 30 minutes late. However, he was really proud that no one ever passed him the entire race. :)
2. As I was running, I came upon a guy running in a cow suit complete with udder. A little girl (about 6 or 7 years old) was standing in her front yard watching the runners go by. When she saw cow man her eyes got wide and she started yelling excitedly,"Dad! Dad! Look a Dalmatian!" She succeeding in cracking up all the runners in the immediate area, including cow man who dubbed himself the "cowmatian".
3. Take Advil before you run. You will thank yourself at mile 10.
4. Time to get some MJ for my iPod. Nothing like MJ telling you to "just beat it!" to pump you up for the last mile of the race.
6. If you shop the expo after the race you can find some amazing deals. Aaron got some really nice running socks for $1!
7. The opportunity to challenge yourself and accomplish something you didn't think you can do is one of the best feelings in the world, even though the process can be quite painful sometimes.
8. Getting beat by your mom makes you feel a lot of pride and embarrassment simultaneously.
9. Running with The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and 2, and some other thing and Fred Flintstone reminds you that no matter how weird you feel sometimes you are definitely not the weirdest person in the world.

We had a great race and a great time! Anybody want to come down and do the White Rock in December? You won't regret it!

haha, funny stuff! why do people dress up for this? weird! yay for all of you doing that! i do not enjoy running much anymore, so i will not ever be joining you for a 1/2 anything! :-)

Jennifer-
no idea why they dress up. Maybe people like cow man get to be in the race for free if they dress up. The others, I have no clue? Perhaps someone pays for their entry if they will dress up as something? or most likely they are just crazy and enjoy running 13.1 miles in a costume. Like you said-"weird!"

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

 Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We Need Your Prayers

Many of you have probably heard all ready, but Aaron and I got some devastating news today. Our baby will probably not survive outside the womb. They did an amneostasis this afternoon to test for chromasomal defects, which is what they think it is right now. I know I am spelling everything wrong so I hope what I write makes enough sense for everyone to understand what is going on. The specialist we went to see feels that it is triploidy or triamias 18. Those may not be the right names but they are two of the three chromasomal defects. The other is down's syndrome. He did not feel that it was down's. The other two defects are fatal so if we carry the baby to term it will not live but for a few days or hours if one of the defects above is the problem. We will know in 2days. If it is not one of those then we will have to go to a cardiologist and a genetic counselor. The baby had clubbed hands and feel and it's heart is not formed correctly and is not in the right place. Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them.
