Chugging Along and Tornados among other things

Cute naked baby! Something to embarrass her with later. We haven't been able to get many of these cause of the casts.

Look how far I can stretch my knee out!

So the big news of the week is that on Wednesday night we had a very powerful storm roll through the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Carrollton was lucky enough to be right in the middle of the worst part. The tornado sirens went off around 7 in the evening. I could see the wall cloud of the storm out my kitchen window passing to the north of us. Our electricity flickered on and off several times and a flower pot on our porch got blown off and shattered by the wind. Our tomato plant doesn't look like it enjoyed the wind much either. Other than that we were blessed to have little damage. Our neighbors across the street lost their tree. You can see how the wind twisted and snapped the trunk. The city was out yesterday afternoon and cut it all up and cleared it off the street. A tornado did touch down a few miles north of us.

Maddy has been practicing her smiles a lot this week. I have a couple of pictures of her at the tail end of a smile. My camera always delays taking the picture by several seconds (so irritating sometimes!) so it is kind of hard to capture the moment sometimes. Yesterday afternoon after Aaron got home I was trying to feed her and she decided that she would rather smile at us than eat. Very cute, but she only ate maybe a 1/2 ounce. She was hungry the next time around though!

We bought her a mobile at Target this week. It goes around and plays music. She has a lion, polar bear, whale, and shark that spin around and she really seems to like the lion the best. That is the one she will actually turn her head to follow around the circle. We thought we'd get a picture of her smiling when we showed it to her for the first time but it seems that she feels more awe than joy at this mobile. This is a picture of her awestruck face. So so cute.

The OT suggested that we start putting toys in her hand because that is something that a baby with normally functioning hands would be developmentally doing at this stage. She likes playing with them and trys to bring them to her mouth to chew on them but gets frustrated sometimes because the toys are so big she can't fit them in her mouth.

Here is a better picture of almost capturing that full blown smile. I am blessed to have a happy baby. She is so good and content, especially considering all the annoyance she has to go through each day from Mom and Dad stretching her, taking splints off and putting them on, taping her foot, tummy time, and of course a doctor poking at her a couple of times a week. She has really started to enjoy being in her swing lately too. It kind of hypnotizes her. This morning she rolled from her side to her tummy and then got mad about it.

Scottish Rite today did not involve much. Our PT there who is doing her splints was sick today so we have to go back on Tuesday to get those remade. The good news is that we will not have to go back to see the doctor until August 14th!!! We will continue going every couple of weeks for the splints though. For the first weekend in a while we actually have no plans. Good because we really need to do some stuff around the house.

She looks so tall, and long in those pictures, looks like she is really growing! Good idea with the toys to stretch her hands.

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We left on Sunday afternoon and stayed through Tuesday afternoon. It was short, but so fun and relaxing. We had no computer and no cell phones while we were up there. We just got to enjoy being around each other and the beautiful scenery.  We built a fire and roasted some marshmallows. Also popped some jiffy pop. Aaron had never done one of those before.  This is a 100 year old cabin they had at the visitor center. I like the mud chinking ( I think that's what it's called). A couple named Comma and Mabel lived in the cabin when the CCC was building t...

Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them. She is moving her...

More Miss Maddy pics

Here are some more pictures of Maddy. I know everyone is eager for pictures. We got to put her first little outfit on last night. She got out of the incubator bed and into a regular bassinet so she can now wear clothes and have her own blankies and stuff. It is great.
