On the Second Day of Kenya My Daughter Said to me: "Maddy Crazy!"

Most important news first. Aaron made it to Kenya okay. He was able to send me an email from the Amsterdam airport and his hotel in Nairobi. The following is from him:

I'm in kenya!!!  It is. Great to be back, it is 1045 local time so it was dark when driving to the hotel, but I loved the dry cool air...we were all buring up so we opened the windows and soaked it up.

I also loved seeing the keenya trees, can't remember there real name, starts with an A I think.

I hardly slept all in flight sor some reason.  Hopefully I sleep well tonight and jag lag is not a problem.  Man talk about catching up on movies.  On the second leg I watched red and repunsal (sp?).  I think u an mm and tammpy should watch it.  I think maddy would really like it.

He sent a picture of the hotel they are staying in. It looks nice. The room has four beds so guess they pack you in. I think he will probably send a couple of pictures when it gets light there. After tomorrow I don't know that I will hear from him until next Friday. They will go to church (in Nairobi?) and then head out to the first village. I don't expect any of the villages they are visiting to have any kind of internet access since there is at least one that doesn't even have a water well. That will be the hard part of the week, but it's a blessing that he was able to let us know he arrived safely because I didn't know if we'd be able to hear from him at all after Amsterdam.
Meanwhile, I have been dealing with a crazy child and painting. Maddy slept horrible last night. She had been chewing on old teething toys yesterday so I finally decided that she was having some pain or discomfort and gave her some tylenol. That seemed to work after awhile but not before we'd spent a good two hours from 2 a.m. to 4 p.m. talking about apple juice, letting go of Mom's hair, squeezing Mom's face, and going back and forth between Maddy and Mom's bed trying to get settled down and to sleep. It was miserable. Yesterday I cleaning the baseboards in the dining room and kitchen, the dining room window and curtains, and then started painting the dining room. I couldn't start painting until MM went to bed at 8 so I was up pretty late doing that and then cleaning up so I did not get much sleep. Not a good way to start a 9 day stint without Dad. Maddy is taking a good nap right now and I got to nap so that helped. Ugg. Let's hope tonight isn't a repeat of last night. Here are some pics of the dining room so far:
Did this during Maddy's nap time. The taping helped some but I still got some paint on the roof. :( Oh well. Does anyone really look at the roof anyway?
The color I picked is Gray Violet. It is a tiny bit more purple than it appeared on the paint chip, but Tam and I both agree that it looks really good. I've got to do the trim areas. I'll have to borrow a tall ladder from a friend to do the trim on one of the walls because it has the vaulted ceiling.
A picture just because. Maddy and Aaron at the park several weeks ago.

Yay! Glad to hear that Aaron made it safely. Looks like u plan on working yourself to death and doing it without any sleep. Can't wait to read your next post.

i always get paint on the ceiling. i just go back with a little brush with the white paint for the ceiling and touch up the ceiling. looks like a pretty color. hope maddy is doing better. colby has been an absolute crank the last week or so. anytime he is awake, he's asking to be carried and is throwing fits. it's miserable for all! enjoy the rest of your time sans husband!

Wow! Way to go! Sounds pretty rough, but glad you've gotten to get some stuff done. I always seem to be way more productive when matt is gone...don't know what that means : )
