Maddy's Surgery

So, the little surgery went well. We had to wait longer than usual today. They cut off her old casts and then they sent us out of the room. I could still here her but she never cried really hard. They said they have a new way of giving anesthesia. Instead of a needle it is some kind of pressurized thing. I can't really picture it, but apparently it is a lot more comfortable than being poked. They cut her achillies tendon. I did not know this, but it will grown back just fine in babies. They were not able to push her foot up as much as expected. We go back in two weeks to have them check that leg. The other leg he left without a cast. I think they will start casting it again next time we go in but he was giving it a break. It is doing really well and I think they also partly wanted to leave it off for a bit because she was developing a little sore on her heel on that foot. It is so cool to actually be able to see her little leg and foot and toes! Knock on wood---but she has not been fussy so far tonight. We'll see if that lasts through the night. She has been sleeping great for naps though. We gave her tylonol before she went in and will continue to do that for about 24 hrs. We give her the tiniest drop possible since she is so young and small, but I think it helps her some.
Tonight we ate at Subway because one of Aaron's students gave him a gift card. Then we went up to McKinney and bought........a jogging stroller we saw on Craig's list!!!! It is really nice and was only $50. I think this kind normally sells for over $200. Can't remember the brand right now. I can't wait to try it out! Maybe tomorrow morning if Maddy continues to feel okay.
All for now. Just wanted to let everyone know things went well and are going well so far.

Hey I like the new look! :-) And that's pretty amazing that Maddy could go through something like that so smoothly. She's going to ruin the saying, "Stop being a baby" for older people because she may be tougher than a lot of us!! :-)

i'm so glad the surgery went so well! that's great news! we'll continue to pray for her and her amazing progress...and you guys!

Getaway to Ticks Bend....I Mean Beavers Bend State Park

 Back in April, we decided we needed to do a short family getaway after the semester was over. The last time we'd been on vacation just to vacation (not going to see family in CO) was when we went to San Antonio when Maddy was 3 months old. We found Beavers Bend State Park close to Broken Bow, OK and decided to go there. We booked a cabin in the state park and eagerly awaited the day we could take off for our getaway. We Need Your Prayers

Many of you have probably heard all ready, but Aaron and I got some devastating news today. Our baby will probably not survive outside the womb. They did an amneostasis this afternoon to test for chromasomal defects, which is what they think it is right now. I know I am spelling everything wrong so I hope what I write makes enough sense for everyone to understand what is going on. The specialist we went to see feels that it is triploidy or triamias 18. Those may not be the right names but they are two of the three chromasomal defects. The other is down's syndrome. He did not feel that it was down's. The other two defects are fatal so if we carry the baby to term it will not live but for a few days or hours if one of the defects above is the problem. We will know in 2days. If it is not one of those then we will have to go to a cardiologist and a genetic counselor. The baby had clubbed hands and feel and it's heart is not formed correctly and is not in the right place. Another Sonogram

We went to the high risk pregnancy doc today for another sonogram. This time he could see all four chambers of the heart, the pulmonary valve, etc. In his words it looked "dramatically better". He feels there is still some slight compression on the heart and that we need to continue watching it. As of now he cannot see anything that is causing it and the MRI did not see anything either. He also felt that the hands were okay. They are not clenched fists at least as he first thought, meaning that the fingers aren't overlapping each other. Her hands are still in fists and she won't open them but he said he has had other babies that have not opened their fist in the sonogram but the hands have been normal at birth, so we still have a lot of hope for those little hands. He was able to get a better look at the face today, no cleft palate, so that is a huge blessing. The feet are still concerning. They are definitely clubbed but she is also not moving them.
